Does anyone have pictures of their hydraulic brake setup? Before I start throwing money at this I'd like to see what other are doing.

Here are some pics of the brakes I used on my BSR. I blew them up a little so you could get a good look. These are made by MCP. I used a hand lever to actuate the master cylinder.

They are great brakes. They will stop a BSR with a full grown man on it on a heartbeat. I decided to use some mechanical disc brakes on my latest project and have been very pleased with them too.

Thanks for the pics. When I do this I think that I just go all the way! I'll probably only do it once.

Have you ever used a differential rear end? With a BSR I think that it would make cornering a bit nicer and it's only money.

Thoughts?

What kind of stool are you running on that blue frame? I am asking because I noticed there are (from what it looks like) pegs welded to the frame insted of place to drop the stool legs in.

Did you build the frame? I like the simple design.

I have never used a diff on a BSR (or any of my projects really), but its not too bad to turn. You can build some caster (15-20 degrees) into the front end to help steering, or you can just lift up on the inside wheels to turn the cart. Also, the more castor that you put into it, the straighter it will run at speed. Just make sure that you have the same castor angle on both sides.

Its just a free stool from a closed parts store. I have seen where people used some tubing to put the legs into, but I didnt have any. I had some solid round stock lying around and used that instead. Yes I did build the frame. Its nothing fancy, but it rode and drove great.

This is the Comet Differential I use. I recently moved the disk from the right axle to the diff. I welded a doughnut shaped ring of 6061 aluminum to the right hub of the diff. I had a kart master cylinder @ first but changed to a sport bike master cylinder lever on mountain bike handlebars. It will flat spot the tires if you want...

You asked about the wing...It is 6061 aluminum...30" x 5"...curved...with ends....does nothing for aerodynamics....but cool as stink!

The wing is terrific! If it does nothing other than make it look faster, it it the coolest addition! I like the wheelie bar, too. That BSR must be a true beast!

That's one hell of an exhaust! :p

It is a carbon fiber/stainless steel MUZZY. I cut it short and re-attached the Stainless ends. The header pipe is SS also. It turns a cool straw yellow...THANKS

I love that BSR, nice work!

Lets get a side photo of it.

Let me ask this. Did you take 1X1 square tubing and bend it to look round? I noticed some bends, but it does not look like a tube frame.

The tubing is 1" x 0.125 square. The bends are actually mitre cuts and tig welded. I had 1" round SS tubing to fab with initially but thoungh in the long run the square would be easier to work with....and it was....THANKS
ps: will send a side view if I have one small enough..or will ZIP each one

hey monkey, ive decided not to go cheap and buy the disc brakes but go ahead and buy the hyrdaulic brakes....can you tell me how you set it up? ive heard of bleeding the brake lines but not quite sure how any of the hydraulic brakes work.

Hello, Nice looking bsr! What type of engine are you running? Do you have more pictures? I am building one with duall wheels on rear and a Honda CR80R engine. I like the diffy setup! Rick D.

Hey Rubicon, Your BSR looks great. One question, When you wheelie with the diff does it want to turn to one side? I hade a different diff on mine and it hooked left hard as soon as the front wheels got light. It did turn alot better.

I have some questions about your brake setup. With the disc mounted on the differential as you have it seems to me that you can stop the engine but if one of the rear wheels is slipping in the mud the other would free wheel. What has your experience been??.........Terry

As far as the way I set mine up, I built the mounts for both the master cylinder and the caliper. The kit comes with the nylon tubing and all of the compression fittings for the lines. Bleeding is the most time consuming part. On the MCP master cylinder, you have to let the actuator come ALL THE WAY back before it will bleed correctly. The easiest way to do this is to bleed the brakes before you hook up your linkage. Another cool think you can do is use stainless steel braided brake lines.

WOW...sorry for the delay in response...very few comment on my stool and I am surprised for the interest..I had a straight axle @ first and it would turn in the width of the street....but with a lot of " butt english" lifting ( unloading) the inside rear tire...the Comet diff cures that...i have nitrous...i shift hard enough to lift wheels in 4 gears...runs 45 mph top speed....I never feel any torque steer from the diff...i did @ first leave the disk brake on the right shaft and the braking was squirrely...the right tire was braking and the left was still decelerating thru the clutch and engine..I relocated the brake to the diff housing....now it will flatspot both slicks...the only thrill you loose with a diff is riding on 2 wheels....

good technical question!...the most important is that the brake stops both the drive ( motor ) and the axle.....you have a point about mud...but think....the diff is locked....can the decelerating wheel of one side on traction...cause the opposite side to reverse rotation in the mud?...why would you ride in the mud without mud tires and not have 4 wheel drive?....hah...just kidding....you have a tech point that is not an issue in practical application...I will say...a practical situation is in the yard...on grass...on uneven ground....with a still chassis...the diff will let on wheel spin.....all i can say...Comet makes a limited slip...really...look on their site

I have a master cylinder from a motorcycle...works great....just upgraded to stainless lines...just for looks not performance...I use the brake switch to work the LED brake light...I bleed the old fashon way...into a bottle to prevent air from getting sucked back in....beats having my brain dead wife from pressing the pedal to bleed them on my car...

what motor are you running on that beast it looks great
