Hey everyone. First post here.. Im a newbie! Just wanted a few suggestions regarding my first BSR.

Im thinking about buying a friends racing go-kart to use as a starting point. Would anyone recommend using a go-kart frame, modified for a BSR frame? I thought doing it this way, it might be easier to set up axles, steering etc.

His kart also has a KT100s Yamaha engine. I used to race karts and these engines are fast but need rebuilds every year etc etc $$$

Im looking at this eBay engine; http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280080341500 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280080341500)

Is this engine too big? Anyone have a similar size? What type of speeds you get out of them?

Just here for info and suggestions from you experts! :) Please enlighten me fellow BSR's!

Matt.

Hello and Welcome!!! That engine will work great on a BSR!! A lot of us use that size engine and have had good luck with them!! As far as speed goes, as you know depends on your drive setup and mods you do or do not do to your engine! With the stock engine you mentioned 6.75hp and with a TAV with 11 tooth driven sprocket and a 54 tooth axle sprocket running 11.5 X 8.00 X 6" Tires on rear you will make about 34 Miles per Hr. Hope this is some help to you! Keep us posted on your progress!!

Hey Mattski, Welcome to this great site and to the BSR Hobby! I would use that engine from eBay ...Just because the color is really cool. I would leave it just the way it is , with no mods...yea it looks cool to put the homemade pipe on it , all it does is make it loud. Leave it stock and it will run @40mph ....and it will start easy and run smooth...you can always add something later!!! I have a racer w/ the Sterling Clone 6.5 just a different color and that thing runs great. Post pic's when you get started. Snakester

Yeah I cant wait to start! I have a mate who is a really good welder so the frame should be alright to make. Im happy with 40mph. Any faster and I might start losing my precious skin.

I wasnt thinking big mods, maybe just a custom twin exhaust ;)

Its my first BSR so I will see how it goes, I will post some pics as soon as progress starts.

Quad

I have gotten 2 brand new 6.5 hp clones off of ebay and paid just under $100 for each, delivered to my door. I can get a clone online from Harbor Freight for about $160 delivered. Depends on how well you do on the auctions or just go direct....
