There have been a lot of questions lately about using the Briggs Intek. I bought a 6.5 Hp Intek and I'm going to use it on my barstool with a TAV2 torque converter.

I thought that the TAV2 and the Intek were going to create some interference problems and making this combo work would be difficult. I finally got all my parts in one place and this looks like it will fit pretty easily.

I'm going to need to change the exhaust and I might need to move the gas tank. Neither of these changes are major. I'm also going to need to grind a bit on the TAV to make it fit.

Here's the back of the motor, you can see the exhaust hitting the rung of the stool.

Here's a side view of the exhaust. You can see that the pipe comes up and then turns 90 degrees. I plan to cut the straight part before the turn and add 3" of exhaust pipe. This should raise the exhaust over the rung.

I don't know why the pictures don't show up inline, if someone posts how to fix that I'll edit these posts.

The torque converter fits easily between the legs of the stool. Initially this was a concern of mine because there isn't enough room to move the motor over to make the TAV pulleys fit inside the stool legs. Because the TAV fits between the legs I can move the motor farther over to the crank side and I'm pretty sure the stock carb and air cleaner can stay where they are.

Here's the TAV between the barstool legs.

Unfortunately the Intek cylinder is laid back more than the Tecumseh. This means you can't mount the TAV parallel to the ground, the jackshaft for the driven pulley will interfere with the cylinder head.

Fortunately the TAV has 3 holes so you can adjust the angle of the backing plate, if you look at Mike’s pictures on his web page he’s got the TAV mounted with the middle holes like I do. With the Tecumseh you could mount this parallel which Mike did after those pics were taken.

Unfortunately the Intek still has an interference problem. This will be easy to fix with a die grinder. The webbing that supports the jackshaft is hitting one of the oil fill holes. I'll take a little bit off the webbing and maybe a bit off the oil filler and this should fit.

Here's the interference on the back of the jackshaft. The backing plate needs to come up about 1/8". There is supposed to be a big yellow plastic plug on top of the oil fill hole, I will replace that with a bolt and I'll grind down the bolt head to fit.

Here's the problem created by the interference. The bolt holes for the backing plate don't line up with the holes in the motor. I managed to get two bolts in but I need about 1/16" more to get the other bolts in.
