Is it neccesary to have the axle stick out past your hubs?
I noticed in the Classic Cruiser Plans, Mike has the rear axle sticking out about an inch or so past the hub, it that neccesary?
I like the flush look better.
I was wondering if it was stronger if it stuck out past the hub ??

No it is not necessary to have it sticking out past the hub. If you ever wanted to widen the back wheels out you would not be able to though! Also for safety reasons I would have a snap ring on the axle to keep the hub from coming off the axle. Just in case the hub became loose.

Hey Gadget,

The only reason I had it stick out about 1" is so I could add a lock collar later if I wanted and also so I can monitor the hub if it has moved.

I have never had a hub move yet, but if it is going to, I would like to have a little extra just in case, so I can catch it before I lose a wheel.
