Hi,

This is my first post, and after reading a lot of others, i have noticed that not many people use a honda motor.

I plan on using a Honda OHV 6.5HP motor for my stool.

Is there a reason for this? is the honda not a good engine? locally, here in South Africa, i can get a Briggs & Stratton or a Honda, no others.

Please advise which engine would wourk best with a TAV2? as i plan on importing the tav, and do not want to get stuck during the build.

Welcome hardtail!!

It's really a matter of choice as to which engine you run depending on your options available. For example, some members already have a used B&S, Tecumseh, etc. so that's what they use. If you're buying new you can go with any brand you prefer. If you'd like something new but without the higher cost of a "brand name" engine, you can go to eBay and get a Honda clone. I don't believe there are any clones for the other brands.

As far as the TAV2 is concerned you only have to make sure it fits the engine's output shaft as I believe all the motors have the same mounting pattern. The most common size of output shafts is 3/4" but some of the higher horsepower engines do have a 1" output shaft so decide on your engine and that will tell you which TAV2 to order.

It is mainly a price issue imho. A 6.5 hp honda can cost almost twice what a tecumseh 6.5 hp runs, and that motor is already set up with a return throttle spring.

The Honda is of much better quality then any motor on the market. The briggs Vangaurd is the only other motor that is built just as strong.
