hey guys to all that can help answer these will be very helpful i'm almost done with it and have all the parts.

1. Do i need to remove the govenor on the 6.5 sterling? and if so is there a link? or will it operate with it on? i thought i heard that i would have to go inside the motor and i'm iffy on doing this.

2. The tav2, the aluminum mounting plate back is resting against the frame is this ok or will it cause a problem? i wouldnt think so. but i just wanted to make enough room for the front of it.

3. Will i need a offset link and a master link to connect the chain?

4. When you guys set up your stools to make test runs before you paint them do you guys use any kind of loctite or is it just for the final product and do you guys use red or blue?

thanks guy's i hope to be riding it with in a week or so before painting it. any help or links or pix would be appreciated. i searched and found some threads but didnt find direct answers to these questions. i'm so ready to be finished. then if i build another one i will have something to work off of.

thanks ryan.

I've got answers - let's see if they match. LOL

1. You do not need to remove the governor for proper operation of the motor. Fact is, the manufacturer included the governor so the average user would not over rev the motor causing internal damage. If I'm not mistaken, I do believe you will have to remove all internal parts to just get to the governor if you want to remove it. Some members have reported wiring the governor arm open so it has less effect on the motor.

2. This one is hard to answer as there are so many variables. If you bolted the TAV2 to the motor before you mounted the motor you'll probably be okay as long as the TAV2 only "rests" against the frame. I personally would prefer to have at least 1/8" clearance if possible. If your statement "wanted to make enough room for the front of it" means clearance for your barstool legs, then mount your barstool and see how it fits. If there are any clearance issues then you can make adjustments as necessary.

3. You absolutley will need a master link to connect your chain. However, you may not need a half link (offset link) and should try not to use one if possible. To determine chain length mount your motor, barstool, and axle spocket. Then push your motor all the way back towards the axle and put your chain in place. Remember, a new chain will always stretch a little with use so this technique will get you in the ballpark.

4. I don't recommend you use any form of "loctite" for test runs. For final assembly (after paint) I would use the blue loctite as it is much easier to remove fasteners later. Remember, you only need a "drop" of loctite for it to work. Using red loctite sometimes you will twist the fasteners off before it gives.

As always, good luck!

thanks for reply critterbuddy. i feel better now knowing that i will not have to remove the govenor. i was under some impression that i was going to have to do that. you also said some members were wiring the govenor arm open. can you elaborate any more on this?

thanks again.

Haven't checked it out myself but here's a thread on it.
