Very interesting. I've used Rustoleum but not in this type of application. I've also used the dense foam rollers he speaks of for wood trim painting and you do need to thin the paint for the smoothest finish. Have to keep this in mind and try it some time on something not critical. Thanks, fenters for the link!

I have went to big lots a got a 99 cent thing of paint and thined it out a lot and it worked fine but there was a lot of wet sanding then i put a clear over it and looked really nice

Something similar, As you probably know the EPA will not let you spray paint outside so when it came time to paint my sail boat (32 foot) I mixed a wetting agent in the hull paint and rolled it on with foam rollers. The wife following along behind me "tipping" the paint with a good quality dry paintbrush. Turned out beautiful and I got a lot of complements........Terry
PS Only one coat.
