I was in Walmart the other day and happened to see some wireless bicycle speedometers. Anyone know if these would work on a BSR? How do they get their input? TIA!!

The ones I've seen you attach a magnet to the axle and mount a sensor close to the magnet so it can read how many times the axle turns in a given time period. You then input your wheel circumfrence into the machine so it can convert those turns into mph. I believe they can also tell you other data as well but don't recall what. Pretty cool and only cost around $10 - $15.

It would be pretty cool to have one mounted... The ones I was looking at track, MPH, top speed recorded, trip odometer, clock, and some other non-BSR needed items. Any idea how accurate they are? Magnet placement (back of front wheel?), sensor location (top of front axle?) and whether the small BSR tire circumference would be accepted by the computer are my biggest questions...

very accuurate....epoxy the magnet to the inside of the wheel flush with inside of tire and mount pickup on a home made bracket with a small gap between the two....the calibration is in the instructions....measure tire circumference in centemeters.... works great

i thought that hey just required you to place the magnet a certian distance from the axel. If you can just configure them like that im going to wally world tonight!! and ill mod it to have a back light and put the buttons on a flat mount serface

Has any one ever seen a speedometer that is analog, ya know with the needle, that could be used on one of these? I would love to mount a speedometer and a tachometer both with round faces somewhere on the front of the BSR. I think that would look awesome.

Well, it is easy to find a suitable speedo, just search ebay for bicycle speedometer.
The real problem is how to get it to show the correct speed.
They have a gearing system of some sort, and that has to be modified to show correct speed with the small tires on the stool.
Do you have a generator on your engine ? If yes, perhaps you could use an all-electronic speedo with an analog needle ? There are some that are programable for tire size etc...
Or perhaps a better source: Do you remember the Honda Dax or Monkeybike ? The small scooter with the very small tires ?
If you could find a speedo with drive mechanism from one of these, it could be that you could make it to work ?
Or if you could find a vendor ofr home-bulit small scooters, perhaps they have a suitable speedo ?

I have looked for HOURS trying to find an analog speedometer that I could use but have had no luck. I am eventually going to put a generator and lights and all that on the thing but until then I have no juice running on the stool. Although that is easily fixed. I also want to find a tachometer to put on it eventually but that will be much easier done.
