Hey, my name is Mike and im new here on the forums. I am building a BSR this summer and I am working out the plans. I plan on using a Honda 10 H.P. GX400. This engine has 6:1 gear reduction and a 1" shaft. I am afraid to use a centrifugal clutch because I am afraid it will not fully engage and burn up. Also I think I would have to run the engine at high rpms for this. I thought of using a belt driven system: My plans were to use some sort of tensioner as the clutch that I can control with a pedal. This option should keep my throttle range pretty useable, providing I have the right gearing. Any help or advice is greatly apreciated,
Thanks.

He Bman,
I believe they make a TAV for a 1" shaft that you could use. I am not sure if it will bolt to your engine, but there are a few variations of the TAV and I am sure one will work great!
Have Fun!

Thanks for the info, but i am looking for more of a lower cost solution.

The 6:1 reduction ratio is going to really hinder your gearing and affect your top end. And you are correct in assuming your clutch will not fully engage and will slip eventually destroying it. I like the idea of a belt and this could prove to be the ticket or as mike said look into a tav regardless of the price. Could save you a lot of time and headaches. Good luck on your project
