We are thinking of having a barstool racer building contest and would like to know if anyone would be interested in participating?

We are thinking about some prizes to give away and are looking for ideas.

If anyone is interested we would like to hear some idea as far as the rules etc...

I have added a voting poll to this post to see what kind of response we can get, so be sure to cast your vote.

I can do this to help out.... If the people who are in the build off by Hoosier tires from me I will put $20 bucks towards the build off per a set. and they have to get the tire thur me thou. and I will see what hoosier them self would do. Maybe I can get the winner on a calender from hoosier. :blob_red:

D&J,

That's sounds pretty cool! Let me know what you hear from Hoosier.

Also, I have added a new forum area in the classifieds area for Barstool Racer Parts and Supplies. You might want to post of some of your items in there.

I get a lot of requests for the treaded tires and the the one piece Douglas rim I used on my BSR. Just a thought...

Hoosier tires kick ASS. They look great on sprinters, now on stools. They have the white lettered tires too I think. Glenn

Maybe we can pull our resorces together and make it an annual thing!

You know there is the annual bikers build off in Salisbury NC each year with discovery channel.... I think this would fall in line pretty good with them.... Hot bikes, Hot chicks, beer and Motorrized bar stools.... HOW GREAT IS THAT!!!! OCC was here this summer with the bike show.

Well our bike deal is going to be east coast-west coast. The June date is east coast. We'll have specials with all our items plus, we can have a couple of racing vendors here too. Glenn

Woodchuck,

I clicked on the link to the frame kit, only problem is I don't know what the actual finished frame looks like. I would show the person buying/entering your contest what they have to start off.

Just my .02 cents..

I think the BSR build off is a great idea....but I don't think we should have to use a bought frame. After all isn't part of the fun fabricating as much as possible? I don't know just my thought.

Hellbentrodder,

I agree. I do however think there should be two categories. One for square tubing frames and one for round tubing.

I think we might just do it as an entry fee only. Dont have many ideas yet, but keep em cuming. Glenn

My thoughts is that the more rules you have ..the more limits on participants...the way to increase participation is to encourage all thoughts and designs and have a few classes....those who do not design / create / fabricate but assemble parts and paint...and those who think "outside the box" and design beyond the cookie cutter stool....some are talented in paint and finish...some in creative controls...some in accessories...some in engines...some in drivetrains..etc...its ALL good...inclusive is always better than exclusive....then when its all over...let the judges choose...its all about increasing the number of enthusiasts...those who want to build from scratch and those that want to buy ready made...

Well for our bike build-offs we decide on 5-10 bikes we think could win. Then its all up to the public voting from there. Thats why we like to have these build-offs in conjunction with big events. In June there are over 20,000 people here in town over the weekend.Let the people decide!! Im stll trying to work this into our bike deal. Dont get high hopes just yet!Woodchuck has one going on so Im not stepping on toes either. Buying a frame isnt the best way for stool building. I would just set an entry fee. If guys like your parts/prices they'll buy from you!Glenn

I am a new builder and fabricator of bsr's and I love the Idea of a build off! I will work vigilantly at getting some pics posted of my projects. I would also agree that maybe a bit more le-way would be nice on the frame. I am not opposed to any of it though! How do I sign up? and where do we unveil? and when is it due? any replie is much appreciated! Curtiss1972 my friends call me the kid Here's an addy for ya moonlightmtrsprts@sbcglobal.net

i think that no self respecting "Build-Off" of a BSR should allow a 'purchased' frame. Its a 'build-off' not a 'buy-off' for pete's sake, and i have no idea who pete is but i am sure he agrees with me.
Now if we were talking a Cobra Build-off that might be different, the frame spec requirements for that much juice could be beyond the average knucklehead like myself.

And accordingly, if there are different classes, why differentiate between square tube and round bar framed BSR's? I think that originality and speed might be better classifications. Like a high priced BSR and a rat-bike classification. But no copying of existing plans and cetainly no buying a frame.
Frankly i do not agree that all barstools are going to share the same general sort of frame. Only if you copy ideas.

And i will certainly help judge the swimsuit competition.

i agree with fatdog by not allowing purchased frames.....but i dont agree with him about the copying of existing plans to make a barstool racer.....they are all gonna look different no matter what ya do. it should matter on creativity with the engine, color, special steering, wheels, tires, and other stuff

Hello, A build off sounds fun! Of course there should be some rules but not so many that would cause people to get turned off of it. I think you should be able to use any type framing material but not a purchased frame! It's a Build Off! Maybe some levels of builds like, Beginners, Intermediate (Has built one before) and the Pro Line. What do you Think? Rick D.
Also I think using plans should be Ok. Each one will be judged I am sure on Craftsmanship, Creativity, and so on!! Its up to the person whether they include their own unique design or not! :)
