Hi,
Who can give me some good clutch and sprocket recomendations? My rear tire size is aFirestone Go Kart Racing Slick 8.0 wide / 11.5 tall / 6 rim. The engine I'm using is a Tecumseh 6.5 powersports with a batman hop up kit, coil, camshaft and valve springs - no governor either! It's putting out about 9.5 hp. Would you recomend using a comet torque convertor or a clutch set-up? What are the advantages of one over the other? What sprocket sizes would you run with this set-up? Anyadvice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Walt

Well let me ask you this... Are you looking for speed or torque?
From the sounds of your build I would have to say speed. When I built my bar stool racer I wanted the same thing.
I use the Tecumseh 6.5 Power Sport with a Tork-A-Verter. I am sure you understand how the Tork-A-Verter already works?
Due the to size of your engine you are going to have lots of power. If you want the speed use the smallest sprocket you can find. I started out with a 54 tooth and now just purchase a 40 tooth. I am also using a #41 chain.
Hope that helps!

on a BSR, what are the differences between the different chains as far as BSR performance?.
What diff will using a 41 give you over say ... using a 35?
And mbean,
how is that 40 tooth sprocket working out?
I am going to buy a torq-a-verter as soon as i figure out chain preference.
thanks,
Mike

FatDog,
Someone correct me if I am wrong here...
#41 chain is larger that the #35 chain. I believe with certain sprocket sizes you can only run #35, like the 65 tooth sprockets.
The Tork-A-Verter I purchased came with both #35 and #41 drive sprockets and are easily interchangeable.
I like the 41T -vs- the 54T sprocket I used to have. The 6.5 HP motor I have makes plenty of torque to still ride wheelies and plenty of top end speed. I feel is it a good combination for the 6.5 HP motor but I would not go too much smaller of an engine and run that small of a rear sprocket. Also weight plays a factor and my weight is 225lbs.

Sniffles,
I run the Tecumseh 6.5 HP and I started with a 54T sprocket and then changed to a 40T for more speed.
The less teeth on the rear sprocket, the faster you will go. But you do not want to go to small or you will sacrifice low end power.
If I were you, and you are not using a tork-a-veter, I would go with the 54T sprocket.
Just my .02 cents...

I would get a tav with 12 tooth. Should give you good take-off and some top end. Glenn

hi, is 20 tooth overkill? if it is what is the least amount of teeth that wouldnt be overkill? i decided not to go cheap and go ahead and get the torq-a-verter....
