I have an old (10-15yr?) Briggs engine. There are no numbers or markings
other than the briggs stamp on the engine but it is a horizontal shaft non-ohv engine. The guy that gave it to me said he thinks it was a 5hp engine. It came out of a water pump. It also has a 3/4" shaft and the end of it is threaded. My question is: The shaft does not have a key way milled into it. Can I use a TAV2? and where can I find more info about this engine?
TIA,
Dan

Ok now I have a larger problem. I remeasured the shaft today and its 5/8 not 3/4. can I even get a TAV or clutch for this at all?

Dan, the 340 series shows a 5/8" keyed shaft application;

they don't have a TAV for a shaft that small, usually 3/4" or 1" KEYED shafts;

The shaft on this engine is not keyed. The end is threaded though. Do I have any options?

Dan, yes, the only practical solution is to get a different engine...

This has been a problem for many folks using a generator engine or using a water pump engine. You can have a sleeve machined for it and then cut a new keyway but tis spendy. You can also purchase a new crank for the briggs but there spendy as well. Might as well put the money into another engine and not fool with those.
