Hello, I am beginning My first build of a bsr today. Just got my bar stool in and my framing material and will start on frame today. Engine will be a 6.5 hp.electric start. I am going to use 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 X 1/8 square tubing for frame. A little bigger because of the Duall wheels on rear and the Weight it will be Hauling ( me 270lbs). I will Post pictures of it as I build it. I have no plans and am building from scratch, so if any one has any opions as to how it is looking or being built your advise is welcome! This is my first bsr. I have built other things such as a Garden Tractor Puller w/ a CBR600R engine in it! I have some mechanical experience with the engine and drive parts but this will be different! I Love this bsr sight and have seen some cool rides and some great help in the forums here.

Hello, Thank You! I have found a comet differential and ordered it. This is going to take more time than I relized. I will have the frame cut out today and will post pictures of it. I have designed a frame from a lot of thought and it took some time to get it layed out. Finally will start cutting it out! Wish me Luck! Thanks for everyones Help!!!! :flash:

why do you want to use a differential? just wondering
moto1fast
November 11th, 2005, 12:43 PM
Hello, I am going to use duall wheels on the rear and want them all to pull! With all that traction and the force of all four wheels pulling, it would push the front wheels as you turn (slide them). To over come this problem the differential will allow the wheels on the Left and right to rotate at different speeds. When you turn this allows the wheels on the inside of the turn to rotate slower than the outer wheels of the turn. Kind of lets the Kart swivel on the inside set of the rear wheels! I hope this helps!

 moto1,
I was wondering... you are building a stool with dual rear wheels. Are you going to have a total of four wheels on one axle, or two independent axles each with two wheels? I've been trying to picture it in my head, and it makes me think of some of the vehicles in a Mad Max movie. It sounds cool!!! I can't wait to see the photos! Get back to work on it!!
moto1fast
November 11th, 2005, 06:59 PM
Hello, It will have a single axle w/4 wheels on it. I guess though you could say it will have two axles on it due to running a differential but it will not be a tandem axle. I will post pictures in the morning of the frame work. I am working on it in my spare time and it is going a lot slower than I would like! Well back to work I go!

November 13th, 2005, 01:29 PM
Hello, I know someone would ask that! Ok first I am going to put a trailer hitch on it and wanted a little lift for it, also I am thinking with this lift my front end will come up a little higher during a wheelie and rest on the wheelie bars rather than the frame. I am designing a wheelie bar that will be adjustable. I think it would be cool to do some wheelies while pulling a trailer. What do you think!! It may or may not work depending on the axle to ground clearance and length of the frame behind the axle pivoting point? Just wanted to try and see if it would! It also I believe will give the Sprocket and brake rotor a little more protection frome a rear end hit! The way I have lifted the rear frame it should come right about or a little above the center of the sprocket and rotor. We will see!! :)

Hello, Sorry for the dark Pictures it was getting late and had a new camera with little knowledge of it. I will post some more this afternoon. Man I had some good luck today! I man heard I was building a barstool racer and wanted to know if I had a Metal band saw, Which I did not. I have been using a Chop saw for all my cuts and was looking to buy a Band saw. He sold me two Delta band saws (used but in good shape for 75.00. Couldnt believe it. :blob_red: :flash:

Hello, I am waiting on the rear axle to be finished up at machine shop getting key way cut in it. Thats the only thing I am not able to do on this project! I hope to be finished in about two weeks. I HOPE! I am not sure what color I am going to paint it yet. Something different! Something Wild! Any Suggestions?

I have to mention I love my bandsaw also. The chop saws are terrible for making anything but a 90 deg. cut.
I am able to make perfect angles with a an angle finder aligning the back plate.
The only downside I have with a bandsaw is it is too slow. I build a lot of bsr frame kits and I need more speed. I am looking into one of the new cold saws for cutting steel provided I can set the angles up like I do on the bandsaw.

Hello, Yes the Band saw is a little slow but worth the wait to get a clean acurate cut. It would be to slow to use in a production plant. I think you could get say four or five of them though and run them all the time and put out alot of work compared to the price of a cold saw! Also I am thinking of designing a Tilt steering for my bsr! Can anyone come up with a good design?Lets here some thoughts on it! :hot:

whats a tilt steering design? is it just angled toward the barstool?
moto1fast
November 15th, 2005, 06:44 PM
Hello, No, I am trying to design a tilt steering wheel where you can adjust it back and forth or closer and farther away from the driver.Like you have in a car or truck! In other words a steering shaft that will pivot using a universal joint towards the top part of the shaft! It will have to be solid at any position

i have an idea but its only for round tube frames. you could a slightly bigger tube and put it on the front(not weld it) and put locking collars around it so it does not move side to side. you put a steering shaft bushing on the larger tube and put a rod anchor on the outside of the bushing.you then take a spring with hooks on the end and attach it to the rod anchor and somewhere around the frame(doesnt matter as long as it holds tension). you then take 3 bars and attach it to your frame with locking collars to match the spring size. you make a bar down the middle of the frame maybe attach it to your engine mounting plate, your choice where you put it just make sure it aligns up with the spring. now you just choose one of the three positions and tighten the locking nut...just might work...not really sure though...lol

November 17th, 2005, 03:24 PM
I have made 3 of them. One is on a small diamond tread plate trailer that I pull behind the stool ( with a duplicate stool bolted in it with handlebar for passenger ) ...I remove the stool and pull it behind a tread plate wagon ( 24v transaxle driven) to haul a beer cooler @ swap meets...The second was on the stool until one day I was demonstrating the nitrous by "spanking" the motor while sitting on it and talking...I forgot it was in gear ....it put me on my butt...and took out the wing on the way down...then I made a 3rd one wider....from center of tires...It is a piece of 6" thinwall aluminum pipe sliced in a section with ends screwed on with small button head screws....it helps maintain traction at high speed....as if it needed help with my 285# butt on it......its all about detail for me....silly....has no value...just looks cool....I just aquired some -3 braided stainless brake line and fittings to replace the poly hose on my brakes....I wish I had a set on my truck!.....on a final note...I hauled the trailer stool to Florida on top of my daughters Tahoe ( look @ my illegal ride on Datona Beach link on this site ) The wind and harmonic vibration almost broke the mounts...i removed it after the first 100 miles...thanks

Thats cool Rubicon!! I Just found and won a Wing on Ebay for less than the cost of the 6" thin wall tubing! It would be cooler to build one but time is against me and decided to go ahead and buy one! On the steering I have decided to go with a rack and pinion assy. and tilt it back to driver at about 10 deg angle. Still thinking of tilt steering to! More pics commimg soon! Back to work. :smash:

Hey Moto1,
That BSR is crazy! Let me ask you this. Do you anticipate and problems with steering because of the large wheel setup on the rear?
Are you going to be running a live axle of differential?
Mike

Hey, Im not sure if I will be running a live axle or differential but one of the two! I just wanted to see about what it would look like with the duals on the back for now. I also if you noticed found a 24 inch stool that would work on it. There is still a lot of work left to do. Stainless steel metal work on the front end and side rails, wheelie bars, NOS system, steering, brakes etc..... Also plan on building a stainless steel cover for the torque converter.

That is so wild!!!!!!!!! I love the idea but I think you would run a Differential.
My back tires are 10" with 7" rubber on the ground and I have a hard time turning. But it look cool. So i just gas it and swing the back around to make my turns. But a slow turn is hard. You should call your BSR Big Foot or Sasquatch.

I am looking into one of the new cold saws for cutting steel provided I can set the angles up like I do on the bandsaw.
Mike
:hot:
Hate to cut in on the dually thread, but a couple things:
1) Mike, I'd never heard of a Cold Saw before, and I thank you for mentioning it. Here's a cheap one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7556287681&category=58257
2) Tilt Steering: My impression is that telescoping steering would be just as good, if not better. :me:
I guess it's be a 3 layer column instead of 2, and inside rod would have a diagonal pin, layer 2 would have a slot lenghtwise, and outside shell would still cover it all. I guess you'd still need a 10 speed bike front hub thing to clamp layer2 to the inside rod once adjusted, and it'd have to be in an area totally exposed 360 by the layer 3 cover.
3) Moto1fast, if you don't have a diff, you'll need to "bump-steer" like the fuel altereds do... in other words, wheelie untill you get off course, turn the wheel a pit in the direction you need to go, let of the throttle 'til the wheels make contact enuff to line you up and gas it again, LOL
1 disc on each end, operated independentally sounds good in cyberspace as well...

Guy,
Dewalt makes a Cold Saw also and it runs about $469. Do some searched on Ebay.
My only concern is that the cold saw design is based off Dewalts metal cutoff saw and I am not sure I can setup the saw to cut a 32 degree angle like I can on my band saw.

Man, am I glad to see you back. Hadn't seen this thread until you posted again. Way cool BSR!!
Let me tell you from experience, get your health in order. I was the typical Type A personality who weighed about 260-270 pounds. Heart surgery at the tender age of 42 (9 years ago) and Type 1 diabetes but just now am getting my health in order. Am taking all recommended pills, half-way following my diet, and recently lost 40 pounds. Life is so much more fun now.
Back to the BSR. The only thing I haven't seen you mention is brakes unless I missed it somewhere. Considering your design and anticipating how the BSR will perform both on level ground and in a wheelie, you might want to consider dual disc hydraulic brakes on the back having one disc on each differential axle. You might also consider putting 2 separate brake pedals on which can be locked together for normal driving but separated when you do a wheelie. I'm thinking any irregularity in the pavement is going to cause your BSR to pull to one side or the other maybe even violently. The dual discs would allow you to apply light braking on one side or the other in order to maintain a straight wheelie. Besides, since you've gone this radical the dual discs would look cool on back and the pedals would catch everyone's attention and make them ask, "What's that for?"
Just a consideration....
P.S. - You'll probably also want to run slightly less air in the outside dually to help with pavement imperfections.

Hello, Well after 7 heart attacks now I guess I am just plan to stuborn to die yet, besides I have to finish my BSR first!! You are right about the brakes also. I just bought dual discs for the rear and hyd. MCP system for it. It will be my next project to install them. Your right also about air pressure on outside rear duals, also I believe this will help in steering in turns. Like it will be in turns alot LOL!!:hot:

Hello, Thank You! I am stil going to have duals on rear! I am building the rear differential and axle assmbly like rubicons I just got the 1 1/4" Chrome moly axle and Comet differential in. I will be working on it next and will post pics of it!:blob_red:

Man I am one mad BSR Builder!! I thought I had got my Comet Diff. in but come to find out differential is not here. I went and opened the box I thought was it and it turned out to be some other parts I had ordered for my motorcycle! I then contacted the supplier (BMI Karts) and let them know I had not recieved the diff and other parts I had ordered and payed for on the 12th. I never got a reply back from them until today after numerous emails for three days and told me my diff was on backorder until the 17th of Nov. Guys this is one supplier you want to stay away from!!!:cussing: They never let me know it was on back order and never emailed when I placed and payed for my order for 14 days after that. I am Pissed!! Mike we need to make a thread on bad suppliers to stay away from and this one should be on the top of the list!! I canceled my order with them and requested my Money Back! I have not heard or recieved it back yet!! This has throwed a hole stop to my build until I find one some where else!! If I still had my Pilots license I would fly up there and Kick some ---!!! Ok Chill Man!! Any way Do Not Use BMI as a Supplier!! They are a Joke!!

moto,
I understand your frustration. I have had issues with other suppliers on some parts. I have only used BMI once and had no issues.
Anyway, here is another link to a company that has the Comet Diff:

Hello, While waiting to get my differential from another supplier I decided to remove the fuel tank and was going to fab my Keg tank on. But I got a wild hair and my brian went hay wire and this is what I came up with. The engine looked a little plain without something on top of it so I built a Ram Air Intake. Well partly built! I have more to do to it before it is finished. Will but butterflies in it so when I gas it they open and build a air manifold out the back and to carb. Pics coming right up!!:hot:

Best air intake I`ve seen by now....Never though of that....It will look awesome and hopefully you´ll get better air flow....It has the air filter after the ram air right?
Awesome!

Will be putting the filter at the back of scoop and a manifold going to the back of the carb where the original air filter box mounted. will work on it today and post pics when done today!

Yeh, It got rust on it when I had my heart attack and had to let it set for about 5 months. They are comming off and being replaced with different ones and adding 2 more because of the Differential I should be getting the first of the week. Then hopefully I should finish it up in about 2 more weeks. If I dont find something else to do to it!! LOL

Well I got my differential in today. I got a peerless because everyone was out of Comets. It came with a 1" X 38" long axle and had to take it apart and turn it down on my lathe to 7/8" to fit inside my 1 1/4" Chrome Moly axle. I also cut and left only 10" out each side of the differential housing. Turned out great they fit real snug and lined up straight. I will be cutting the chrome moly axle tomorrow and plug welding it to differential axle to get my length for the duals. I will post pics tomorow!

It is bolted on the right side of the differential housing and the brake disc is bolted to the left side of differential looking at the pic. The pic is looking from front to back. I have all that on and am charging batteries for camera. Will post them in the morning!:blue_blob:

Hey Moto, The Peerless "Dif" will work great...I have used a couple. It sure makes riding easier. Did you have to modify the sprocket and the brake disc? I can't find either that will bolt right on. The extra bearings and hangers will really make the rear much stronger. Keep up all the great work!!! Will be waiting for more pic's. Snakester:cool_dude:

I did get a 60 toothe sprocket that bolted right on. I had to Fab a brake disc from a motorcycle on. I am going to make a 54 toothe sprocket for it because the 60 toothe is to close to the ground about 1" clearence! LOL Will post more pics in the morning!

Moto, I am running a 54T and a TAV w/12T/ 6.5 Honda Clone...Yesterday we clocked it at 41 mph w/ my neighbor's son on it...(my neighbor is a city "COP" w/a hand held Radar). I had a 72 spocket and I changed it because of ground clearance...The 54T did add alot of speed and is still good for low end torque! I am rebuilding another Racer and I am using a 40T , should have even more speed! :cool_dude:

Yeh, It will be a very modified BSR. I have been up to 175 on a CBR1000, 156mph on a GSXR600, and 157mph on a CBR600R. I will be putting a Modified CBR600R on it with Fuel injected Alky on it. It will be a stretched out frame of the Classic Cruiser mike sells plans for. I just got those plans and am going to be doing some mods to it as I am building it! It will of course be beefed up to hold the engine and the torque of it. Stock it produces 100hp. and 87 lbs of torque to rear wheel @ 10.000RPM's. The frame will look more like a Jr dragster but a little shorter! I will keep everyone informed on the progress of it in a new Post I will be starting soon! :hot:

That´s the kind of projects I like to hear about....
Today I pushed 4th on my 125cc on a straight line...Plenty of power, even carburator is not adjusted (pull at full trotle and engine seems like it looses its power and wants to shut off).
Can´t wait to get it adjusted and run up to 5fth...Man It just feels awesome (no brakes yet ;) )

Lolololol, cīmon people, you have to drive something new, aiīnt you tired of the same steering? ;)
=) pushed 4th at half trottle yesterday, awesome acceleration, I just need to clock it so I can now how fast it can go, hopefully it would be in the 40 mph range
Yeah, get it built and Iīll buy a bus ticket so I can drive it ;)
Excitement is the key...however with that engine maybe the reverse steering ainīt neccesary.

My reason is to be able to put your feet on the side steps and put the heel of my feet against them .

moto 1 fast, How about useing a split axle in the rear? mount an xtra set of bearings and brackets in the middle of your frame, and cut the axle use one side to drive and one side to stop. Used this system on a skull cracker that i built, also a cooler kaddie. When going to flea markets with the kaddie was able to make sharper turns with no proublems. The only two things that you have to watch os when launching under power it will pull to the drive side and when stopping it will do the same thing on the brake side.If this will work for you, this will save you some money. Hope it helps slick T

Hello, Thanks for the info. but have already got the differential done and installed. It will work a lot better because it will not pull to one side when taking off fast or braking. Will turn great to. With the dual wheels I needed all that the differential provides!! Thanks Though!!:thumb:

Hey Moto, Isn't it amazing how easy it is to get involved in new projects? I have a couple of friends who love to ride my Racers and want one , but couldn't build one if their life depended on it. Maybe after new years I will help them build one! Today I was out riding one of my Racers and this guy stopped me and ask all kinds of ?'s...Want me to build him one that he can use to go to his mail box ( His drive way is 1.7 miles long ). I am working on a John Deere Theme Racer that will be great for him and he is coming over tomorrow , maybe we can make a deal !!! Just another " PROJECT ".

Ahhh you guys got me jealous. A lot of people have asked me about my BSR but no one willing to pay for one...
I´m thinking on building one with a TAV and 6.5 horsy...maybe that will make em be more interested...(if they are somehow scared)...
I´m having lots of trouble with the engine...I´m thinking it was fk3d... Clutch won´t work at all and still you can switch between gears...But you can´t start it until engine is on neutral (not achievable with the hand setup)...It is also very hard to get the engine to neutral...
I wish someone around here would want a BSR...I could start some nice bussiness and share the BSRing =)
Now if I had $$$$$ I would make a nice "mini Drag" with a 1300 engine...Another TAV BSR...a 600 cc go kart...a mini buggy...A mini bike...and get a nice Bug and turn it into a Baja....It sucks not to have the cash =(
Well...I think I must be happy, I got today a CO2 tank for my Mig for free (gave away a Acetilene rusty tank which I received for free)...Tomorrow will be the first day of my PRo MiG running gas...I´m so excited (I´m just missing an gas adapter, that I´ll buy tomorrow)...
Hope to see the pics moto!

Yep thats right Snakester I cant work on mine until I get others done! I have put mine on hold until I get my dads done and the barrel racer for the rodeo coming up before long! I have not been able to touch it for awhile! LOL:laughing: I am thinking the same thing once I have one done it will turn into a business here also! No one but my family and the City council man has seen what I am doing. But some how people around town have heard about them and everywhere I go someone is asking about them!! The local Car and bike club wants me to bring them to there shows! Walmart puts on a car and bike show and they want me there to! LOL I can hardly believe all the fuss everyone is making over them and have not even seen one! LOL:laughing: I guess I better get one done so they can see it! Then I will be in trouble with building them!! Will try to get back and finish my dually real soon! I Hope!
