Ok I have a buddy who likes to ice fish....not sure what wrong with him yet but we are going to be building B.S.R for the ice with studs or something in the tires. Anyone have any idea's on how we could accomplish this in a go-kart tire?????

I think you should just run it as it is. I would recommend a cooler on the back and small screws in the knobby tires would help.
Maybe a blue and white color because of the cold temps...

Hello, Yes this can be done! You will have to use Rain Tires and get 1/2" screw in studs. Parts Unlimited carries these. A Motorcycle shop that is a Parts Unlimited dealer will be able to get them for you! I am a Dealer and they run retail for 18.95 for 250 or 57.95 for 1000. I sell them for less than retail 16.95 for 250 or 47.95 for 1000. By the way They are called "Pro Gold" ice screws.

Hey moto,
Not to pick, but can't you just go to a home depot and by some sheet metal screws with a square head and screw them in?
Are the screws you sell special for the ice and tires?

Hello, Mike these are made different in they are not only square headed screws put are deep-V headed (sharpened) , Have Large shanks with coarse threads that helps prevent them from pulling out, They are also heat-treaded to stay sharper longer! I have used these myself and they work very good. Also yes these are made for Ice!

In 1975 I used to race indoor short track motorcycles on ice in Souix City Iowa...I and everyone else used hardened hex head sheet metal siding screws in trials tires...I guess they have better now....I also remember drilling each tread bar ( knob ) and installing a " 1/4" x 1" Hilti stud with nuts and washers..then a couple of layers of duct tape inside and a heavy duty tube.....it was very very dangerous.....I had to make a 270 degree fender for both wheels...and it did not work much better than the screws...and was much safer...good luck

Why not build a stool over some 14" knobby tires. Your not always on ice. 9 out of 10 times theres snow that you need to go through. I know Im one of those dumb asses that ice fishes! Ive thought of doing this same thing. If a guy lived around one of the Great lakes this is a great idea. Glenn

I would also add a V type snow plow to the front so you could blaze your own trails. :D

Hey, No mike he needs to mount a snow blower on the front and he could make money cleaning driveways, store fronts, parking lots off. You could always just put tire chains on rear dual wheels.HAHAHA!!! ;)

i think the ultimate statement of extravagent waste,
which is obviously important to everyone of us here, I mean afterall ... how necessary are barstool racers in the grand scheme of life ?? ...
but the ultimate for an ice-fishing BSR might be heated handlebars, available at motorcycle shops. My Tec engine has DC out, so you might be able to power it from the engine, if the heated pads don't require too much juice.
You just gotta love waste, ... well kinda like putting nitros on a BSR. They may call me an idiot, but i'm a happy idiot.

all your idea's are great but I dont want to rob horse power from the motor. I want to be High speed on ice. Yeah thats it :hot:

Ok, I got it. Now here is what you do for that ultiment Ice Bsr. Put in place of the front wheels Blades, Like Ice skates but a little larger and put a snow mobile engine on it and then install the ice screws in the tires! You could get some speed and great handling then! :hot:

I dont see how you can build one under a grand unless your making all your own parts.

I do this as a business and buy many parts right from the manufacture. It will be close but I think I can do it. :blob_red:

I build them as well. We make a ton of parts here in the shop. Its gonna be hard to do it. Cant wait to see what you come up with. Ive got ideas in my head for a ice fishing caddy. A motorized one at that of course. I know it sounds nuts, but after sitting on the ice for hours at a time, its nice to have a ride back to the bank. You know someones gotta test it out, and I have no problems with that!!

I think I would use a little harder compound than a rain tire. These things are like pizza cheese and wouldn't hold a screw very long. They do make some harder compound treaded dirt tires that might work well. I use to stud tires for MC ice racers with 1/2" metal screws, remove the shocks and put solid links and full fenders so when the screws came out, they wouldn't fly out and hit anyone.

okay heres what you do , you buy chains for car tires, cut them into thirds or any special size to fit the tire. once you get them on the tire either zip tie them together, weld them or use some of them mountain climbin clips.

I've got some snowblower wheels with chains, they just won't come off the wimpy blower axle. be too small anyway

We have decided to use snowmobile track studs in the tire this way you can tear up in the mud two!

Brings back old memories of racing sleds in Nebraska.....I used a fastener used in construction called a Hilti stud...it is 1/4" x 1" threaded on one end and pointed on the other..hardened to be shot into a steel I beam with a powder charge....they were free.....I used hardware store " Tee nuts " for the back side and washer nuts for the outside....then duct tape inside the tire to protect the tube.....I did this on dirtbike tires and snowsled tracks....along with carbide runners and Tiger claws on the tracks......

Well it seems mother nature is not going slam us with snow this year so we might revamp the ice racer and make it a hill climbing mudder machine! Let me know what everyone thinks of this idea thanks!

My BSR is in the Beta-testing stage, runs, but no paint.
Pretty icy on our street, so we did put the snowblower chains on the rear.
Really throws some nice rooster tails. Hope to have some video this week.:blob_red:

BTW Woodchuck, if you feel the need for the Caddy of ice fishing rigs, just spend the most money on the newest thing out.

it's not the plow, it's a new style Bombardier (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&hs=8Fw&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=Bombardier&spell=1) 2 tracks, 2 skis, sleeping and ice hole fittments, seems to settle down on the ice, and raise for travel
