View Full Version : How to Slip on Handle Grips with Ease!

Yesterday I was screwing around in the garage working on the final assembly of the new barstool I designed. I came to the part where I had to put the handle grips back on and I remembered just how though they were last time. So I get out the WD40 and spray the insides of the grips and they slipped right on. The only problem was they also slipped right off.
So I took some brake parts cleaner and sprayed the inside on the grip to clean it and then slipped the grip back on while the cleaner was still wet in the grip. And it slipped on like butter. Zero effort. After about 1 minute the brake parts cleaner evaporates and leaves no residue and the grips stuck like glue.
Don't worry about getting the grips off, you can just roll them back like a sock on your foot and they pop right off.
Below is a photo of the grips I am using.. I hope this helps someone out.

Well if you need them off hit a shot of air underneath it while pulling. Pulles right off! Glenn

Hello, Just to add a little bit about the air. I use air to put them on and take them off and if you want them to hold good, spray Final net hair spray on the bars before putting them on. Just wanted to add my .02 worth.

another little tip on the grips i used to race atv and had alot of experience with them and we used to use hair spray because it would let you slip them right on then in a minute it would be like glue to help hold them on

would you spray hairspray if you were using a twist throttle?

Sniffles.
On the twist throttles the actual throttle grip clamps to the handle bar and the other side slips on. If you wanted and needed to, you could do it to the left slip on grip. No need for the throttle grip.

I use double-sided golf club grip tape and solvent. Wrap the handlebar with grip tape, wet with solvent and the grip slides right on. In a couple of minutes, the solvent evaporates and the grip isn't going anywhere.

Hair spray is the only way to go here.
Another great trick is to push a coin into the end of your grips, that way when you fall off (and you will) the handle bar doesn't wreck your grips and the handle bar doesn't get embedded into your legs.
Trust me, I have experience!

That is an awesome tip I have never heard that one before. Thanks for the advice if I can get my grips back off I think I will do that.

I found that if you go to Ebay and look at handlebar parts for mountain bikes and you will find some great end-plugs for your grips. Some of these are colored anodised aluminum plugs. These would look great on some builders tricked out rides.
Neverdone, that was an old motorcross trick from down-under. You are welcome mate.

That's actually a great idea. I would think that sitting on top of a bar stool and driving would be a tad hazardous in terms of balance. Knowing me, I'd probably just take the handles off of a bicycle and plastering them onto the stool (whenever I DO make one).

Build you a barstool with some patio furniture welded to it. The umbrella would be hell to keep straight at 30 mph and a real bugger to steer when it folds up around your head, but apart from all that, a great icebreaker at a Sunday barby.

I was just about to say metho to lube grips in place, but windex is basically metho and water.
Using metho i got a 19mm (3/4") racer bike grip onto a 22mm (7/8") bar for the hydraulic handbrake in my mini easy as.
