OK, guys, flame away.

Can anyone give me a quick primer on how the tire size designations actually work for kart/BSR tires & rims? I'm getting ready to order up the stuff for my BSR and I *think* I have it down, but I want to be sure before I pony up the $$$ for my new toy.

For example, if a tire is advertised as being 11 x 7 x 5, does this mean that the tire is 11" wide, 7" in diameter and uses a 5" rim?

Also, how closely should the tire width match the rim width?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated... :dizzy:

Rims for the front should be the same width (if not just a bit wider) than the tire, and rears should be atleast 1" wider that the tire...

So are you saying that if I have a 9.5X6 rim I should run a 11.5 x 8.5 x 6 or smaller on the rear. How much smaller? Can I run an 11.5 x 8 x 6?

You want the rim to be wider than the tire. Yes at least 1-2" wider. Most kart guys will run 2" wider in the rear and an 1" wider in the front. This pic is,
REAR is 11.5x8x6" tire on a 10x6" rim

Thanks for the reply and I get it now, I just put 11.5x8 tires on 9.5 x 6 rims. Look great but a real PIA to get the final pop out of the bead. I tried all sorts of lubricants even butter and thats pretty slippery stuff.
