Pillow Bearings

I'm "thinking through" the rear axle config, and have been looking at pillow bearings for a 1 1/4" axle. All of the bearings I have been looking at are over the 1" width of the square tube I'm using. Would a bit of the bearing housing hanging over the square tube be "do-able"?

Anyone used pillow bearings with 1" square tube? and if so, how did you mount it to the tube?
