I am using mike's brake kit. I setup them up just like mike's pictures. But for some reason it take forever to stop. Locking up the rear tire even on dirt is highly unlikely. Breaks are firm feeling on break lever of t-bar. But hard to stop. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Justin

jbaker,
Sounds like u don't have your cable tight enough. U should have only about 10 to 20 thousands clearence on each side between the pucks and the disk. Brakes are OVER rated anyway.

Hey Jbaker,

Be sure to tighten down the adjusting nut on the caliper until you have .010 to .020 clearance. You may have to drill a new hole deeper in for the cotter pin. Take your time when doing it so you do not brake the drill bit off.

Also, the mechanical brakes do work well, but I tell people they will not lock the rear tires up. Unless you're running some extreme engine where you going to run over 40 MPH, they will work fine.

The disadvantage to hydraulic brakes is they will lock up the rears, but you do not gain much more stopping power because the BSR is so light the back end just fish tails on you and makes it even harder to control.

I have had this problem on the 125cc BSR I built.

Also be sure your caliper is square to you brake disc so you have maximum surface area for stopping power.
