Hey everyone, I am posting this messge for anyone that would like to participate in helping Alan put together a BSR for the Relay for Life.

I will be donating plans to help get the ball rolling for him. If you are interested in helping or would like more information, Alan can be contacted at the phone number and email below.

Below is his message:
---------------------
After running this idea past Mike Bean, he was nice enough to post this “request” to barflyracers.com for me.

Let me first introduce myself, my name is Alan Bradford and I am a seven year cancer survivor. I never knew my grandfather; he passed away from melanoma skin cancer before I was born. At the age of eleven I remember seeing my uncle go bald from the chemo and radiation still young enough to not know everything that was going on. He also lost the battle with the same skin cancer. When I was a little older I realized this cancer didn’t skip any generations and that there were only 3 grandsons, me being one of them. At the age of 25 I had a mole removed only to find out it was melanoma. My initial response was “I knew my destiny” my destiny was to become a survivor. With 6 month full body checks and one more melanoma scare I am still doing just that SURVIVING!! 7 years strong!

Since that time I have become very active in Relay for Life (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/GI/gi_1.asp) being a team captain and various committee positions. It is my passion

My relay team is currently looking for a small ( easy to transport) novelty item to raffle off as a fundraiser. A BSR would fit the bill exactly. My initial idea was to travel around town on the weekends with the BSR and sale raffle tickets, i.e. Lowes, Wal-Mart etc...

With my hometown, Mooresville NC being Race City USA and having over 60 NASCAR teams I believe the profits could be two-fold, One for the Relay for Life and secondly for anyone who helped, as the BSR would be displayed with all donors at every location.

I am looking for any vendor, distributor or person who would be willing to help the “Relay for Life” BSR come to a reality. At this time I am merely looking to see if there is any interest. We have a small budget and a local co-cart builder that will assist us in the logistics of proper mechanics. I happened upon this site from a minichopper site last year when I was researching something different enough to attract enough interest to be a good raffle.

I think a venture like this could easily impact BSR sales from anyone who participates.

The event isn’t until late April so I am looking at mid March to have enough time to travel around with the BSR to strum up both advertisement for supporters and most importantly raise monies for Relay for Life.

Thanks for letting me take a few minutes of your time.

Sorry for the long hiatus, A quick update. I was working with a local distrubtor of BSRs, the manufactuer's name I cant not remember, but with less than a month before the Relay the distrubtor still would not budge on anything less that "his price" And knowing a little about retail, "his price" = "a profit to him"

At that point I didnt have the time to look elsewhere.

Our local relay raised over $150,000, Just so happens I am the chair of the fundrasing committee this year, so the idea is still floating around.

I was just so flustered at how the local distrubtor treated me and the Relay community I just gave up at the time. Our goal this year is $200,700. Quite a lofty goal.

BTW thanks for the "old thread bump"

I still beleive this could go over very well for Relay for Life and the BSR community

Holy old thread bump batman....

To answer a few questions. No the BSR Raffle didnt get off the ground due to issues for the local dealer.

and yes i still want to make it work, We are currently trying to work with a few local companies, maybe a NASCAR team to help us cover the costs of a BSR that we will in turn raffle off.

Just got to find the funds and find a builder. I have a number of $1000 in my mind, but that could be a real pipe dream.

And with that said, Thanks for the time and I am off to send a few emails and try and guage any possible interest in the BSR manufactuer world.
