Hey Royster,

I would recommend the 6.5 HP. You will get the extra tourqe to help out with the tires and I think you will he happier in the long run.

If you do not need all the power, then ease off the gas... :D

Sniffles,

The only thing I do not like about the Intek motors is they have the exhaust coming out the top of the engine. That needs to be changed for a BSR.

I like the OHV motors. The Briggs Intek is a great motor. You can get them for cheap and they have a lot of bottom end. exhaust is no problem. Remove the muffler and install a header that is used for karts. They come in several different configurations. But hey!, if your building a BSR, then you should be able to build a header. That's the fun part, building everything.

Royster,

Remove the govener so you can wind her up! Just don't throw a rod out the side of the block. :D

Removing the govenor will make it faster. Remember, these engines are industrial engines that were basiclly designed to turn around 3400 RPM. Some of these engines have a stamped steel dipper on the rod to oil the motor. If this breaks, the engine get no luberication and will weld itself shut. Some have a cast dipper made right on the rod cap. These are better. The only way to tell if it has a good dipper or not is to pull the side cover. You have to do this to remove the govenor anyway. A couple of tips to make it faster:

Advance the ignition timing by installing an offset flywheel key(about 30 degrees), Setting the valve lash(OHV motors) to .003 intake and exhaust,
Removing the stock muffler and installing a header pipe.

I've built some of these OHV Intek motors that will turn around 10,000 RPM on alcohol. Don't think I'd want one on a stool, although I did see one with a V-Twin Harley. This guy was about 10" between the eyes!
