I am new to all this go kart/barstool stuff and was wondering if is matters if i go with a #35 or # 41 chain. I thought i saw something that said the #41 was a better option but does it really matter. I seem to find parts for a #35 chain easier so is that one more common? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey JJ, I have a #35 chain on my stool , but I`m only running a 3.5 hp Honda with a standard clutch. It works fine but is not much bigger than a bicycle chain. If I was running a 5 to 6.5 hp motor I would use the #41 chain and sprocket/Tork-a -verter. Just my 2 cents. Heff

Hi JJ,

We recommend to use a #41 chain just because it is stronger and about twice the size of a #35. We carry both chains at Barstool Racer Supply (http://barstoolracersupply.com) in 5' Lengths for the same price and if you want to use a #35 chain, we can get just about any sprocket size you need in the #35 chain size.

Hope that helped!

Yea, im just gonna go with the 40 tooth # 41 chain...That with a 5 hp briggs and tav2 should be able to pop the wheelie...right?
keep it real playas

5hp with a tav, wheelies shouldbe no problem.

I run both go karts and BSRs on #35 chain. The difference between the 2 is the pitch size, which doe make one stronger. The #35 chain has a 3/8" pitch and the 40/41 has a 1/2" pitch. Gear ratio is established by the diameter of each gear, thus a similar sprocket for #35 chain had more teeth then a similar sized one for #41 chain.

My two current BSR's run #35 chain with a centrifical clutch and pull wheelies very easily, I run 68/12 tooth combo on my gears on one and a 72/12 on the other. Both have 6.5 hp honda clones.

Our race kart runs a briggs flat head that make about 10 hp on alcohol, it uses #35 chain also.

either one is good, but I like the 72/12 when using #35 chain with a centrifical clutch.

Were did you get the 68 tooth sproket from? All im able to find is a 60 in #35 chain here. I test rode the bsr today with 12/60 and it lacks power from the gearing I think.

The 35 o-ring chain is actually stronger than the 41 is. All 41 chain regardless of what the package says was built for industrial purposes only. Not only is the 35 o-ring stronger, its also faster. We run both 35 and 219 on the karts and stools. The 219 is much smaller than 35 and its just as strong if not stronger if it is pressed correctly. The 219 is also giving us about 2/10th of a second faster on our track. 10 laps and you have 2 seconds difference :)
