This is my first time building a BSR. It is actually a project for auto and machine shop class. After many hours on the net looking at all the pictures i could possibly find i drew up a plan. I am rebuilding a 3.5 hp briggs engine in auto for it, and all the rest in machine shop.

As this is my first build please post your opinions, all feedback is appreciated negative or positive, just keep the negative within reason (anything that will help me improve).

I think its looking good so far, the one thing i might watch for is the center cross bar getting int he way of the chain.

it should be high enough. i'm not one hundred percent sure, but it shouldn't get in the way.

Looking good, what kinda tires are you going to run?
JChatt
October 28th, 2007, 11:37 AM
i was given a set of 4.10/3.50 - 4 tires and rims but the tires had holes. so i am going to order tires and use those as the front (slicks hopefully) and then my dad knows a guy that races carts so i might buy some stuff from him.

Finally got my rear tires and inner tubes in. The tires on the left (4.10/3.50-4 slicks) are for the rear, and the tires on the right (4.10/3.50-4 sawtooth tread) are for the front. Again excuse the quality, they were taken with my phone.

that looks like its gunna be heavy!
we used 3/4" square and its a little weak.. but bracing it fixed it.. at first we had one piece for the main frame rails.. had to doubtl it up.. from all the bumps it bent down a good 1/2" !

its made out of 1 1/4 inch steel square stock. Should be fairly strong, as for heavy, i can still lift it without any problems.

Looking good! Tho' seems a bit on the heavyish side? Keep up the good work ! How long each week do you get to work on it?
p.s. Love the lightened rear sprocket!!! You may have to notch the corner of bolted brace to clear the engine plate? Tack weld everything is the best way to go ,in case of parts needing re aligning!

The only problem with the bed type ball bearing pillows is that you don´t have that much clearance of the rear sprocket...
have you checked that out? with chain on? by the pics its hard to tell

November 23rd, 2007, 06:53 PM
yeah i've checked, it should work, its an 89 tooth sprocket, i will most likely be getting a 53 tooth, as the 89 is almost as big as the tires hahaJChatt

i am in the middle of sandblasting it and applying primmer, have changed thoguhts on the engine and i am putting in a 163 cc OHV honda engine. The colours i chose for paint are black and silver. The main frame black with the handlebars, stool legs and rims silver. Also the engine will eventually be painted to match. With the new engine i decided on a new exhaust. i am thinking of making on like the old shelby cobra's, having it come out the side of the frame. Similar to the picture below.

Looks real good in the video(love the kids chattering watching big bro' blatting!!) Cant help but think how prone a BSR rider looks sitting up there ,but somehow you dont feel so insecure when youre riding on it and think "how cool is this?!!!" nIce job.
