The comet clutches were made for yard karts, fun karts etc etc etc and dont really hold up too well. Thats why they only cost twenty bucks LOL. You can bring these clutches to life with a few parts and a little machining. The bore for the clutch housing is a bronze bushing that you can press out and install a new one that will help the clutch function properly again. You can also machine the weights a little bit to reduce weight and bring your stall speed up just a little. A tighter spring around all the weights will also help with the stall speed and help the clutch slip a little more to allow your engine to get closer or into its power band.
If you want a good clutch, consider investing in a racing clutch designed for use and abuse that will for sure last you the life of your stool. Noram makes a nice entry level racing clutch with the 5/8 bore that you specified for about $110.00. Also max torque makes a racing clutch called draggin skin thats about $120 bucks. All the other racing clutches start at about $250 bucks for a good one, but any of these clutches will go far with you and your stool and you wont have to dink around with them.

I`ve got the Noram GE clutch ( about $60 ) and it doesn`t do a very good job. I was curious how a $100 + clutch might perform also. But still headind toward the TAV.Heff

The noram ge clutch is not a good clutch. Get the noram gold clutch and run it as an inboard, it will do you a good job. Let me look around and see if I have a used one with a set of goos shoes and springs, maybe we could work out a deal
