Anyone ever tried a toothed belt drive ,from clutch to rear axle?

my buddy made a manyual foot clutch from motor to rear axel with a normal V belt.. he went with a 3" on motor to a 8" on rear axel.. so more less a 1.75":1 ratio.. idling along he was doin mabey.. 40km/h..

BUT it can be done!!! just need proper gear ratios...
