I think there is a site that has plans you can download for building an electric BSR. I think it's barstoolracer or something like that. Maybe some here knows for sure.

For motors there are a few choices depending on your design and fabrication ability and taste. Automotive starter motors were the first used for this..( no speed control just on/off and a lot of finesse )..then mobility scooter transaxles ( great package includes bearings, differential, holding brake, motor, and easy mounting ) and wheelchair motors ( use 1 or 2 and chain drive to the rear axle if you want more than 6mph < the limit of mobility stuff with avg tire diameters>...We are talking 24vdc...There are 2 groups of controller types to choose from...real mobility controllers and kids "made in China toy scooter stuff" ...the later is available on e-bay and on-line as replacements for the wide range of these toys..I look at all the wires and the rating ( usually 250-350watt ) and wonder how to wire it...I don't know if schematics are included..then to the mobility controllers...look at the Curtis Instruments site...they make a very robust line of controllers..mine are beleive it or not used in mobility powerchairs ...and...floorsweepers...same unit...just programmed differently...to name a few parameters that are applicable to a BSR application in the setup....Acceleration ramp, decel ramp, I/R comp, max fwd speed, max rev speed, current limit, brake delay, reverse alarm, fault code outputs, etc...the catch is that you need a resource to program one...I have a guy that lets me borrow his programmer by mail....I have not spoken to him in a year or so...he sends me the unit for shipping and insurance cost and he holds a credit card # for $1500 till it returns....or you can locate a mobility device service center that has one that will do it for you...plug it in...hack thru the menu and you are done...I just bought a spare controller on e-bay yesterday for a bargan...they are retail in the hundreds..my current one is a factory rebuilt for $120....e-bay was $59....I will either send both to my buddy to clone the setup or have him send it to me like before...on the Curtis site look for a 1228 or something like that or a 1505...one is a black box ..the other is a blue curvy unit the size of your hand..look at the schematic and see how simple it is....good luck...let me know
