View Full Version : Classic Cruiser ??? TAV on frame

I have a 6.5 honda clone, and the TAV2. The TAV mounts at a downward angle to the motor. The problem is that the mounting bolts for the engine wither hit the frame, or the TAV hits the frame. Has anyone else had this happen? I believe that I am missing something simple.
My other thought, is to move the engine moutn plate support bar to the middle, as I will probably rotate the stool. I think if I brace it right, should be strong enough. Just wondering if anyone else had a simple idea.
Thanks,

Hopefully you haven't made the final welds to the frame... I had a similar problem with mine on initial mock-up, but once I figured out the clearances, I was able to build my frame leaving about 3/8" clearance between TAV-2 and inner frame support. On my build, the slight downward angle of the TAV became a non-issue once the wheels/ tires were mounted up. I believe the key is to mock EVERYTHING up (tack welds only) before making the final welds... HTH!

Also check your engine mount plate. It can go on two different ways. One way will cause you to have the problems with the engine mount bolts because the slots are offset to one side.
If you have completed your final welds, you can always tighten the engine mount bolts from the top side on the engine.

I talked to Mike a little today. But the problem is not the downward angle, but the bolts hitting the frame, and no room left for clearance for the TAV. If I took it off of the plate, there is still only rougly 1" from the TAV plate to the bolt in the engine mount pad. It doesn't make any difference to turn the plate around, still only so much room between the two. I will try to get pics up. I will study it more tonight, and report back.

I had a similar issue and moved my center bar and rotated my legs 90 degrees.
