Hello:

On my project I would like to use an 8.5" Grant Foam Steering Wheel. I would like to use a brake lever mounted to the steering wheel as my throttle control. All of the brake levers that I see are the slide on style. Does anyone know where to get one that will clamp onto the steering wheel?

Below is a picture of the steering wheel and the closest thing I can find to a clamp on brake lever... any ideas? The pictured brake lever only works on 7/8" handlebars... I do not know if the foam on the steering wheel can be compressed that far.

I have used a brake lever off of a Mountain Bike ... Some of the handle bars are 1" or 11/8". They are made so you can mount it on a wheel and not just a slide on. I think that Racing Bar Stools look really cool with a steering wheel but, you will have a lot more control with handle bars...Good luck!!! Snakester:cheers:

Snakester, thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem like this site gets as much traffic as in the past... so I appreciate the reply. I agree, I prefer the handlebar look a little better, but since my project is similar to a motorized wagon... I am trying to stick to a steering wheel, but finding a throttle solution becoming difficult.

As another option I could use is to keep the steering wheel, then make a "Shifter" look mechanism that has a twist throttle on top and push forward to apply the brakes.... similar to a helicopter control. But I am still on the search for a "clamp-on" brake lever for a throttle.

with mine i cut the foam out in the area where i was putting the levers on and i found a set of levers at the local bike shop that was a 2 piece clamp..
i looove the steering wheel on mine.. personally i think handlebars would be tougher to control but thats all a personal opinion :)

I think what your looking for is a "butterfly" set up. It amounts to two levers. One for brake and the other for throttle. Do a search it my be archieved.
