:cool_dude: Well, I finally got my BSR finished as far as mechanicals go but I still have some cosmetic issues to do yet.
I was fortunate to be able to do everything in the shop that I work in. Had all the tools I needed (except a tube bender) to do the work. What was really great is we have the ability to do Electropolishing. So I polished everything up and it came out looking pretty good. I still need to take it apart to do the final polishing and hope to get that done as soon as time allows
I went with the plans for the Pro Street frame (had to do some modifications to fit a wider stool and shoehorn in the 8 hp). Fit a TAV-2 to the engine with a little grinding to both the engine and TAV-2. Machined and welded a custom adapter for the K&N air filter. Fit a header and SuperTrapp muffler and used a Coyote-Gear tank to hold the gas.
Got it out for the first yesterday and had a blast. The 8 hp Honda has plenty of power so I think I can go with a larger primary sprocket with the 40 tooth rear that I'm running.
Once I get the final polishing done and get it put back together I want to mount a GPS so I can get a fairly accurate reading of the speed this thing has.

Hi Mike,
Yup on the TIG.
Been running Miller Dynasty 300's the last couple years and they really do a nice job.
I splurged and bought new material and ended up shelling out almost 4 bucks a foot for 1x1x.125 tube. In the end I think it was worth it, it's really going to look nice when I get the final polishing done.

Stainless frame? are you nuts! that must of cost you a fortune and twisted like a Bar$tard when you welded it.

Nuts? Some people think so.
Since 90% of the stuff we build at work is stainless, the decision was a no-brainer.
Warpage is always an issue with stainless, but with the right tools :smash:, it can be overcome. The mistake I made was not taking pictures of how it was warped before the straightening took place.
I did get the final polishing done and have it back together, now I just have to take the time and resize the pics and get them posted.

It's finally done (for now). :cool_dude:
Had a GPS mounted and had it up to 38 mph with the speed building before I had to let up. I't seems the extra length I added to the pitman arm made the steering a little too quick and it gets twitchy as it gets up in speed. I'll have to play around with the steering to smooth things out and try for more speed in the future.

Thanks Heff.
It does seem to draw a lot of attention. Most people are curious to know what it is and as I get to explaining it, they then notice the SHINY frame. :thumb:

That is a sweet frame, can't afford a TIG myself, maybe somday. How long did it take you to get the tank from Coyote-Gear? I read that they were a pain to deal with.

For thoes of you that think that TIG welding is the best thing out there, you will be surprised when plasma arc welding finally comes into popularity.

Plasma arc welding? how does that work, and how expensive is it. What kinds of welds does it make?

Thanks alt.
I was hesitant to order from Coyote-Gear because of the negative comments I had read concerning the long shipping delays some people were experiencing.
Since they were the only ones I could find with the tank I wanted, I took a chance and ordered through their website.
I was surprised when it showed up in only a week, so I'll give Coyote-Gear a big :thumb:.

Well, plasma arc welding, given the name it obviously involves an electric arc and a plasma, similar set up to a TIG welder bar a few things. Look the process up on Wikipedia.
What kind of welds does it make?:dizzy: ones that melt metal togeather:lush: , just like the other welding process'.:dizzy:

The next thing you need to do is start learning basic fabrication skills and if what you say is true about all the people who can help you, see if any of them can guide you along the way.
I've been in the metal fabrication game (welding, machining, etc.) for the last 30 years (yes I'm a big kid) and everyone has to start somewhere.
There's a lot to learn out there, keep at it and everything will fall in place along the way.
Good luck and happy fabricating. :cool_dude:
