I know it's been a while since I started a new project, But, a couple weeks ago I took apart the family go kart, it was just to big and a pain in the a$$ to get it out and and ready to drive. I was going to sell it, but I couldn't get what it cost me for the parts, so I parted it out, and yesturday I started a new project. I call this one the RECYCLING PROJECT, because I am only using the parts I have on hand. Took alot of cutting and grinding to get most of the steel ready for me to use it.
Here is the first pic.......

Looks like a good start... Looking at your profile it says your getting ready to retire from the Navy. Are you in the Norfolk area; I'm out in Chesapeake.

Yes, I'm in norfolk, about a mile frome the base. And I cant wait till I retire.
On this project, I'm at a stand still. Trying to figure out the seating. And if I made this thing too long, it's easy to cut it down at this stage.

I cut the spindle brackets in half and made the taller, found a tough spring for them, and this is what it looks like as of this afternoon.

Good Ideal with the spring there I might have to mod that on to mine. As long as you dont mind if I steal that ideal. lol

Looks like a great start. Did the differential axle come on the original go-kart, or did you have it already. I am looking to install one on my bsr. I ride in a ton of parades with the Shriners, as well as competitions. The diff. would be a great addition and help in the steering of the thing. With the big tires I am running, it tends to "push" a bunch. I see from the pic that you have the sprocket and the brake rotor mounted to the differential itself. I am assuming that this set up will stop both axles. Other wise, you will have to have two brake set ups. Also, if you know, what brand of differential axle is it? Again, looks good.

I had this diff on my go kart, but I did a mod to mount the brake disk to the diff, this is the same set up I have on my BSR, and it works great. As for the steering, this is the best way to go. ON the rear of this thing I am going to use golf kart tires, so it should be a wild ride.

Im still in the NAvy, just done with the Ships, 4 ever.
Not too sure, but I dont think I am going to use the stool frame on this ride, probly just the seat, want to keep my butt lower to the ground on this one. Might have the seat right over the engine with about an inch or so of clearance. I replace the stock fuel tank with one with a lower profile that I had on a shelf colecting dust. I am also working on some fenders for the rear.

I am thinking about putting 2 bar stool seats end to end to make the seat longer for 2 people. Has anyone done this?

The Barstool fram went out the window, I messed around with the seat, trying to make it longer, even putting them end to end, that didn't look so good, and my wife wouldn't get on it. But I am still playing with it. I will put a pic of the frame today.

Here is the frame, primed and first coat of paint. I plan on having this completed this weekend.

For a double seat have you thought of a motorcycle seat?

I made something like a motocycle seat.
something the wife can ride behind me on.
On the phame I also built in a reciever hitch for future use.
When I tested it out before the break down for paint, it was pulling the front wheels off the ground, so I had to make a wheelie bar.
I will post more photos soon.

I am recycling the parts from an old family go kart, just got done getting the rust off the sprocket, and I had to paint it. Can anyone guess my paint scheme?

Came up with a wheelie bar I can remove when I need to. I had this wheel left over, wish it wasn't green, does not fit the color scheme I am goig for.

Got some more work done today.
I should get the diamond plate done tomorrow, hopefully.
By now you can tell I went for the navy theme.
Thinking about getting a license plate made that says "SQUID" for the back.

Yes, I parted out a rusted out BMX for any usable parts. Like the title says RECYCLING Project. I am not buying anything for this build, just using what I had around the house.

Got it pretty much done friday, late, to late to hit the streets.
Still working on the license plate and NAVY decals for it. Still rides like my BSR, a ltlle more stable, and with a longer seat, the the wife can join me. And once I build the trailer, I can haul the kids, or coolers, or even my BSR.

Here is a look at the back end and a good shot of the Diamond plate.
Notice the reciever hitch built into the frame. I was thinking about a hitch mounted cooler.

I recycled the jeep fenders I had used on my family Kart. Picked them up at northerntool years ago. I cut one side off of them, then I add some door trim to the edges, the kind you get at the auto parts store.

So i am pretty much in love with this project.. Seems alot more practical than a bsr (not saying they are supposed to be though :S) and all around looks sweet..
How does it ride?

Sorry it took so long to respond, rides great. Havn'r had much time to mess with this project, Today was my last day in the NAVY (Retired) and now we are moving to PA, Chambersburg. The funny thing was, when we were up there looking for a house, I saw a BSR on the side of the road that was for sale.
