Looking for any fabrication ideas on a hitch system to tow a beer cooler trailer.
I dont want to use a regular hitch for a auto trailer. Unless they make them extra small.
Somthing small that will pivot in all the nessasary directions.:dizzy:
A few of us are trying to figure this out, so if you got a towing system, please share.
Photos would be great.

hey man,
here are some pics of what i did. I put a receiver on my daughters wagon and my barstool. the wagon is alot higher, so i put a swivel in the trailer tongue so it could be reversible, and use an old tie ron end for the hitch. i flip over and it is just the right height for my barstool. you can see the split in the tongue where the swivel is. the trouble is, if you want a straight trailer tongue, you may have to weld your swivel in and put the tongue together in a few sections, then smooth out the welds and no one will know. now you have the pivot in the tongue instead of the ball. I got the idea from my motorcycle cargo trailer. the hitch swivels 360 degrees on the tounge.
hope this helps or gets some ideas going for you,

Wayfat, looks cool. Never thought of using a tie rod. Just wondering if anyone makes a mini version of a trailer hitch.

If fabbing one up isn't in the works - then look up ATV aftermarket parts suppliers, there are a few out there that have some really good ones that won't break the bank. look up Kolpin Powersports, and heres another idea for you and Wayfat (if looking at Doing the Rod end set Up) Look at using a Quick Pin - Cleaner and faster than using a Bolt / Nut Combo, and they also have a high shear strength, quick to disconnect, and look cool. You guys are lucky to have the chance to pull the beer cooler at shows .Over here (UK) all vehicles have to be road legal to be driven on the show grounds at car shows etc. Thus we cant drive anything like these wagons ,2 wheeled ,or any 'toys' at shows .Health and safety is laid to blame! rules have become very strict in last few years!

Use a stabilizer ball or what is also called an anti-sway device.

You'll have to build the hitch and receiver yourself but it's about 1 1/2" I think.

The ball itself can be bought alone. A quick search failed to find a source for the coupler side that wasn't attached to a stabilizer already but must be out there.

It'll end up looking perfect. Just a miniature version of a ball and coupler hitch.

yeah, my dad had 2 of those stabilizes for towing his big camper. like hammer said, it was a mini ball and hitch. i searched the web looking for those also, but couldn't find any. i just figured the went to a different style in the last 20 years. maybe they can be located at a camper retailer?

Oh, the balls can certainly still be found. Simple search for anti-sway hitch will turn them up.
The bigger challenge appears to be finding a coupler. Hmmm. Maybe if I knew what size that ball was.....

Well, I've discovered it's a 1-1/4" ball. Still can't find a coupler though. They do have to exist somewhere I'm sure.

I am in the process of doing the same thing. I was thinking about using a tie rod end. It would bend in all directions and would act similar to that of a ball hitch. If you have any ideas for me let me know! I am in the same boat.

No. If I was doing it myself, I think I'd switch to using a tie rod end.

Not yet. Been stuck up at school and have not been back to my parents to work on it. I work at an auto parts store and my guess is that a tie rod end for a smaller GM vehicle would work. If I find anything I will get you a part number.
