i just found this website tonight and i love all of the info i have found so far. i have a few questions though...
1. what size motor would you guys recomend?
2. clutch vs. tork-averter
3. will it be hard to custom design the rear drive train?
4. how hard will it be to build one of these from scratch?(i have a welder and some expierence in fabrication, i also have a friend who works at a machine shop)
5. where can i get the plans for free? (i dont have paypal or credit card)

1. 5.0 and 6.5 seem to be the most common. 6.5 may generate some fitment issues under certain stools apparently. But seems to be the preference.
2. TAV also seems to be the preferred choice unless you go to a racing clutch. There is a lengthy thread in the FAQ forum covering this topic.
3. What are you planning on doing back there? Most of the plans make it pretty simple. You have a driven sprocket on the shaft. What else there you are trying to accomplish?
4. I'm just getting started on mine. I'm not a welder and don't have one so I'm going to be relying on my son-in-law and friends to handle the welding part. But the overall design is really not that complicated.
5. Don't bother with the free plans. Contact Mike at barstoolracersupply.com and work something out with a money order. The $10 for his plans is definitely worth it. Lays everything out nice and neat and explains how to do the fitment of various parts if you customize from his specific parts list.

This is great info that I was just thinking about for my first build. Thanks

I haven't posted to here in a while.
Got a message when you replied to this thread.

I really need to get some photos posted of the two stools we built here.
Both from Mike's design.

We pretty much built them exactly to the plans provided.

Both turned out well.

It's actually kind of suprising the difference in torque from the two motors even though they are exactly the same. My stool will wheelie, Vaden's won't.

Interesting. What HP motor you using?

5.5 Honda Clone. 6.5 generates some fitment issues.

We didn't want to relocate airboxes, mufflers and fuel tanks significantly.

We raised the stool 2.5" above the frame by welding large bolts with the heads ground round to the frame and then slid 5" of pipe over that. The stool legs insert into the pipe and rest on the bolt head.

We also had to build an offset to move the fuel tank one inch sideways to clear the front legs of the stool.

I'll go out and take some pictures this afternoon.

If you're going to use a 5.5 and Mike's plan, I can provide pictures and instructions for every step not specifically covered in Mke's plans, which I'd strongly suggest buying. Worth every penny.

Can you send those extra's (pics and instructions) over to me? I am still in the debate as to what to build exactly and this my help push me to the BSR vs Cooler vs Wagon

Here are a couple of pictures of the stools.
I'll get some closeups of fittings and stuff later.

DCHammer, I do like the headwear ya'll have on in the first pic. Been known to wear one myself! Am a member of the Hella Shrine in Dallas, TX. We also have a barstool unit. As well as a go kart unit. Good to see fellow nobles on here.

We don't have a specific unit in Khartum for barstools although I'm going to get one started.
Funny you're from Dallas. I lived/worked there for 16 months in 05/06.
I have a number of friends in the Moslah Temple in Fort Worth.
We used to have obstacle course days on their riding pad along the river there that I attended regularly.
Their current president at the time was a close personal friend.

I know a bunch of the fellows at Moslah. They are our main comp. in obstacle course. (Go-Karts) Good bunch of guys. We just got a class for the barstools at obstacle course this year. Lots of interest from the other Temples.
