This is My First post, so I hope I do this right.
Anyway, I started a BSR durring the summer, I'm in the NAvy so my time is limited ( Traveling the World, etc..) I got the frame started and was wanting some input. I have been doing some research on Diffs for the rear axel, I used one on a Kart I made a year ago fo the Kids and myself. If anyone wants to see pics of the Go Kart Let me know and I will Post them. The pegs in the front are for a removable foot rest that I am rethinking that one.

Looks good to me, but I haven't welded anything on my own BSR....
Just wondering, and I'm sure you've checked, if the chain will clear the rear motor cross brace.
Is the kick up in the rear a skid plate for wheelies?
The pics are kinda small, but are the front corners cut at 90?

I weld all the time, so Im not to worried about that.
The chain does clear, and the kick up in the rear, I havn't decided how I'm gonna do the rear end, and if I do a diff on the rear I will have to 2 more bearings, thats kind of why I'm looking for input. Sorry the pics are so small.

Sniffles
Actually I got a stool that does fit, However I put the ring on the inside of the legs to make roon for a torq-a-verter,( Pic posted ) as for the wheels, Just some I had around the garage. I am going with the one peice rim for the finished product.

one thing I was tinkering with was the steering, I was thinking the bicycle steering thing, (to small kids that out grow them every year) but then I thought of the Quad runner steering shaft,(Ebay) much stonger and the collar keeps it from ratteling. A Wheely bar idea I was looking into was the roller blade skate wheels. Found a pair at Kmart on clearance for $2.

No time to enter the build off, I'm going to be gone quite a bit this year with the Navy, I will be out to sea more than I will be at home. Next month we pull out for 30 days come back for a couple weeks, and leave for another 30 days, return from that for a month, leave for a couple more weeks, return for 2 weeks, go to fallon NV for 5 weeks, etc, it goes on till we do the 6 month deployment, after that I will have some time, but thats next year in 2007.

Pics look good, keep them coming. Just curious, how much camber are you running on the front end, if any??

I can't remember the exact amount, but it is small, between 3 & 8 deg.
not much.

Alterego,

Is there a reason you designed the frame so the front is lower than the rear?

Do you think it would be comfortable to ride leaning forward all the time?

Just curious...

Mike
It realy isn't much, maby 1/4", Nothing was realy mounted when I took those photos, and the real wheels and tires fix that issue.

thanks again

WOW!
You are right, we hardly ever hear that, but you just gave me a warm feeling inside, thank you. I have been in for 17 years, 3 more years till retirement.
My wife is also in the navy with at least 6 more years to go. It realy is hard on our kids, but we are never both gone at the same time. But we miss alot of them growing up. SO they always get involved in my BIG BOY TOYS.
The Picture of the F-14 Tomcat was actually one of mine, the one in the phot went to a museum, the rest to the aircraft bone yard. FA-18 Superhornets are what we have now. They seem to break alot less too.

Ditto goes for me too, altrego30.
seems the service the service men and women are always more appreciated by the working man, skilled craftsmen who still know how to work with their hands.farmers, machinists, metal workers, heck, maybe even wood-workers (buncha hippies, lol) I'm sure a site such as this supports "our boys" 100%, but the problem is the news organazitions and their reporters that don't know how to work with their hands, have no old skool skillz that can only run thier mouths and creat the next new buzzwords.
Well, speaking from a 43yr old man in the recycled parts business for 15 years, the old word work just fine.
THANK YOU, and I wish all the best for you and yours.

altrego30, I read all of your post and just wanted to ask what ship you were on. I was out there on the America when I was younger. I was with VF-102 and we had those F-14 Tomcats. Oh the memories:laughing: . My son is now out that way. He is on the USS Washington. Great looking BSR. Keep the pictures coming.

We are attached to the IKE, but I have been on lots of carriers.

Anyway, Did some more work on the BSR today, got the steering figured out and the rear Diff extra bearing carriers, took som thinkng to get it right, still need to set up the HYD brake mount.
Hear are the latest and greates photos.
most of the frame is 1 1/4" box, and 1 "
the steering is from an ATV.....

Well after a long day in the Garage an a few trip to the Autoparts store and the local hardware store. I took the frame off the rolling work bench, but it on blocks and started the final mock up. I did find a few things I need to Tweik. I also am reconcidering the Thumb throttle, I can see I will have a sore thumb after a while. Or is there a way to adjust the spring tension on the engine?
Being my first BSR I was wondering what every one thoought?

I had the same problem with my throttle spring. A simple fix is to take the spring, place one end in a vise and pull on the other end and stretch the spring a little at a time until you're happy with the feel. Be careful not to over stretch because you will have to cut the end of and make a new one.

I went from having to squeeze as hard as I could to using one finger for my throttle.

I have a Yamaha thumb throttle off of a ATV from a cycle graveyard...works great to control speed ....had a foot throttle before that...now wondering how a twist grip would feel...I am the type that keeps experimenting..good stuff

Well, the thumb throttle isn't so bad, just need to loosen up the tension a little bit so I can have a little better control
