It is a re-phrasing of Torque Converter...used primarily on ALL snowmobiles forever.....it consists of 2 pulleys...one on the engine shaft...one for the output. each one has a movable side..moving the side in and out changes the effective diameter of the pully...the diameters increase and decrease inversly...the engine pully has a centrifugal lever that moves the sides of the pully as rpm builds...the output pully has a spring that pushes it toward the large diameter setting....it acts as a slave to the other pully and assumes the diameter it is forced to be by the rpm controlled one....works great...Honda has done it in cars....Rotax even built a competition dirt bike around one...I rode one once....grab a handfull of throttle and hang on...it transferred power almost enough to wheelie the bike ( meaning max traction )..when I hit mud it geared seamlessly up to prevent the spin and still move forward....great design...felt spooky because I was used to waisting momentum with spinning and wheelstands...kinda like posi-traction...it is a gearless transmission...best of both low gears for torque and high gears for speed.....I favor a real transmission myself...fun banging gears and doin real wheelies....not balancing acts.......have fun...and remember....

yeah, just think how a snowmachine accelerates, basically the same belt squeezer, when it squeezes the belt to engage, the diameter becomes larger too... what's a larger front sprocket do? opposite of what a larger rear sprocket does, more high end...

Can someone give me the length/dimensions needed to install a torq-a-verter? I want to use one, but not sure if I have the space.

If you have already built your BSR, and are using a clutch, chances are you will have to modify the stool to make it fit. I had a similar issue on an earlier project, then I got a Torq-a-verter, had to do some changes to get it to fit, had to cut the mount off and reweld it more to the right.

Overall are you happy you changed to a torq. Are there any ups to having a clutch other than price difference.

I feel like its my oun little automatic transmission. Yes it does take up mor space, but I like the way it works.
