How big is it? How much gas does it hold? Does it have mounting brackets?

Hold 1.3 gal. and is like 9" x 13" I use a machined billet saddle with straps to hold it in place and I machine those peaces as I need them.

Hey Wood Chuck, where did you get that tank for that price? I wanted to carry some on the store, but the sellers would never contact me back.

I made a tank out of steel. It doesn't have the light weight of aluminum, but I don't need to TIG it either. I think this one holds about 3 qt. of fuel. You will have to excuse the gas stains!

Hey Altrego, how about a fuel tank off of an older lawnmore. You can find pretty decent ones. They are oval, square and round. I just got a small one 11"x6" off of eball for less then $20.00. You got to watch witch ones you get. I've also seen some small aluminum ones on e-bay but they have gone for around $100. Just a thought, have seen a couple with the old lawnmower tanks on them and they look pretty goo. Go into the photo section and look up speedohio, there's only one photo but he's got an old lawnmower tank from the looks of it (square)

The tanks that I'm talking about are the old steel tanks

I looked at some of the molded poly tanks used for overflow and dry sump oiling systems..they even make 1.5 gal fuel cells...look at Summit racing web site

Ok here is a pic of what a buddy of mine got for me from ebay....
Not sure what the second hole is for on the buttom, or how I'm going to mount it. ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS?
And where do I get fuel fittings for it?

Well, I got no responses so,
This is what I came up with.
-Got brass fitting and plig at the local plumbing store.
-Straps and rubber gasket material for inside the straps
at the local harware store, they were realy helpfull.
-Some quick release bolts (Not sure what they are called)
from my junk box ( bolts and screws, and weird stuff )
But I think it will work, and I can take it off in a matter of seconds.

Great lookin tank...and nice mounting also...Looks a lot like the tank I built. I have a second one that will hold a gallon or so..I have not polished it yet...I have a plan to make a form to spin some 3003 aluminum ends for the aluminum pipe that I use...That will make them resemble the vintage Moon tank design...I will fab some cradle brackets that use a rubber hose covered spring to hold it in th ebracket...old rod stuff...i am finding that I only get around 20 minutes of riding on the quart tank with 110 octane race fuel....good stuff

Don't know what threads are on your tank but try eBay search "chrome gas cap cover". There is a few styles mabey one will work for you.

trying to get a hold of the guy that sells them, he will not respond, so Oh well. Guess I will stick with the red cap. It will match the "Remove befor flight" flag I got from one of our Bombs.

Not to sure how to do the math on that one.

One half gallon.
Pi x radius squared x length = volume
3.1417 x (2x2) x 10 = 125.66 cubic inches

1 US gallon = 231.000001 cubic inches

I think that is how it goes. HTH.........Terry

IDEA....look at Pep Boys, Autozone, Advance Auto in the "Tuner car " stuff...I see caps there for Honda valve covers that are billet aluminum and come in colors...also think of something that would cover the cap you have and epoxy it over it....worse case scrounge a piece of aluminum...cut in a circle...polish and epoxy it on....

I will look into that, never thought about just a cover, but I am noticing that I might need a vent in the tank, there is a vacume created in it after running a little while.

Canadiankid
February 4th, 2006, 09:43 PM
Is that vacume part of your "gas movement" problem.

Hey, I'm new here and am getting ready to start a build. Been doing lots of research-I really want a round aluminum tank, haven't found anything that I really like like yet. I do kind of like the racing look of these 1 gallons from Summit. They are for a jr dragster. How big of a tank do you guys run? About how long does the fuel last? They have 1 qt and 2 qt ones also.
