I just started building my first barstool and i am looking to run it with a starter motor to keep the cost down. I did some searching and i am not sure what type of starter to use. can anyone tell me what vehicle make/model the stater came from you are using? some threads talk about using a gear redution stater but how do you tell if it is a redution starter? also where can i find a sproket that will fit on the starter? thanks for your help

Well I'm not sure of the make and model of the starter that we use but it was a starter for a diesel truck, one of the engineers that I work with found a spec sheet and we bought the one with the highest torque. The problem that you will run into is that the starter motor is not intended to run for very long, so you will need to give it the best chance it can have. we pulled the motor apart and installed bearing into in place of the brass bushings. As far as finding a sprocket to put on the shaft good luck. our shaft was was not a standard spline it was weird, we end up modifying a sprocket blank in our machine shop. If anyone laughs at you and tells you it can't be done send them to
