A friend took me (and my almost 4yr old) to "Pats Acres" here locally in Oregonto watch his kid brother race. Ended up he had mentioned my BSR project to his dad earlier that week.
I got there and wasasked if the following donation would help:
- 1" hub/disk rotor
- 1" sproket hub
- 1" x 48" axle (will cut to fit)
- 2 kart spindle assemblies (fit below tires)
- 2 Bridgestone 10x4.5-5 + 1pc. polished rims
- 2 Bridgestone 11x7-6 (on 1pc. 8 wide rims)
- 2 rear hubs + hardware
- steering shaft bushing
- steering wheel adaptor (going with "T" bar so it won't be used)
I was flabber gasted! What more could I say... F**CK YES that would help.
- 7hp Tecumseh motor came yesterday... broken however. Seems the packaging wasn't the best on the sellers end and that UPS really didn't help matters in the football approach to package handling. lolz The carb unit got snapped right off the motor. Mostof the backetry is out of wack too. Dented the motor base plate. And dented the flywheel cover.
- Monster Garage BS was bought at Shucks Auto parts for $20... the Logo ain't centered and it's width is only 13". Its a tough squeeze for the motor. ;(

Hey SupraLuda,
Good deal you got there. Nothing better than free parts.
Do you have plans on where you are going to get a clutch for that engine? That shart I think is larger than the usual go-kart engine shaft because of the HP.
Also what are you going to do for a gas tank? I had to go to a lawn mower shop and buy a used one for mine.
I am curious to see how fast that thing will go. I would recommend the smallest rear sprocket you can find. I just put a 41 tooth on mine in place of the 54.
Keep us posted!

Mike... not sure on the sproket size.
I do have a clutch (15 tooth), so keeping a 4:1 ratio IIRC reading online somewhere is what I should look for.
Latest news on FREE parts:
- FREE chassis! Its a 125 shifter frame some kid wrecked. I plan on using the outside rails (already containing axle hangers), the front bar w/ spindle brackets... basically cut the center out and weld to fit the 13" bar stool. :D
Pic's to come when the frame getshere tonight (to big to load in a friend jeep)!
Patrick
PS- this is almost cheating.... most of the shit is already done. lolz

The frame was pitched... not actually. It'll be saved for a momentoe. lolz I picked up some 1.25" and tubingbender, plus I've got 90% ofremaining parts needed to make the sucker moble. :D
I'll basically follow the pictured layout (in addition to making a jig for those ***resale*** idea's):

Well... the bender ended up being a PIPE bender, not a TUBE bender. :( The 20' of 1.25" was wasted! The bends weren't supported enough, so they basically just crushed.
Frantic for more pipe and a method to bend it... I called a local exhaust shop and they told me to stop by, that they might have some tube laying around. I ended up leaving their joint with 1.5" OD tube that they bent for me to match my kart frame.
What you think?

I was going to ask you if you had the old frame stripped or if you built a new one.
One thing about those benders.. They are usually for pipe conduit; you need one specifically for steel tubing. I almost purchased one myself.
When do you think you will have that thing done?
I just took my BSR to the local drag strip and drove all over the pits with it last Sunday. Lots of people were asking about it. I was the only out there with a BSR.
Take it easy,
Mike

Hay Mike. That must have been a sweet adventure. Do you use a trailer, truck bed, or what ?? to transport your stool? I've been meaning to ask... how the Torque A-verter? Here in the PacNW, the weather is "wet" a lot... I've decided onchain for slippage reasonsand younger years of go-cart owership. lolz
They let you hit the strip? The guys at the kart trace told me to bring it out when she's course worthy.
I'd like to say "2wks ago" for actual ride time, but realistically it'll be a few more weeks. I mean, I have all the parts needed already.... I'm just limited by space as you see in some of the photo's. The 1 car just ain't cuttin' it (the 2bd/rm apt) doesn't help either.
I've been waiting for a SS321 tubular manifoldon theSupra since December... damn Hong Kong builders ;), the BSRstarted as just a side project in the "dorment" times. Its looking more and more like it'll be done WAY before the car ever will be. But then again, 800rwhp :shock:can't be built overnight.
We're upgrading to a real house within the next month and I will have more room for the TOYS! lolz So I seea nice fabrication work bench being built in the very near future.

hey you guys . Nice work on the tubing SupraLuda. I have been working on mine for a few months. Only stopping to print some shirts now and then. Had to trash the motor . It was to big. But have a 6.5 on the way. But man it is so cool . just when i start working on it I have to stop and chat with someone walking by and wonder what it is. Anyway hope I can get it done before July. Can't wait to ride it around on the 4th at the race. One thing i did is weld the neck from a bike on it for the steering. works great. Well keep spreading the work about this site. We need more like us in here with great ideas.

Hey Supraluda,
I had a great time at the track. I was the only person there that hada BSR. Lots of people were asking questions.
I did find out that it is hard to drive a fast speeds while holding a beer in one hand. When I hit bumps it shook up the beer or the beer ended up on me. :D
I had previously ask the track officials if they would let me run it down the 1/4 mile, and they said no. I think they just did not understand what it was or thought I would get hurt, but then they allow the junior dragsters to run the 1/4 mile and the BSR is basically the same.
As for the tork-a-verter, I don’t plan on riding my BSR in the rain so I could not tell you if it would have problems with slipping. I would still go for the tork-a-verter if you want the speed. Otherwise try for a 41 tooth rear sprocket to give some more speed.
Talk to you later...
Mike

Hey Warpaint,
That frame design looks familiar. Looks like you have got the hard work done, now the finishing touches are left.
What type of welding are you doing? MIG or Flux Core?
Hey you might want to add some wheelie bars. A couple weeks ago I went to the local drag strip and was riding a wheeling and I hit the gas a bit to hard and went over backwards.. Kind of funny... There was nobody around (that I could see) that noticed my little accident. The funniest part of it all was I had just pulled up to a trash car to throw my empty beer bottle away and decided to ride a wheelie and then over I went... No damage to the BSR, was just a soft flip over, but not my first.
Take it easy...

Hey mbean .
i have a flux Core welder I got a payment for some screen printing I did for a friend.
.25 is it's max weld . So it works great for this .125 frame. And yes i will have some wheelie bars on it . They look cool and I don't want to end up on my back. I will tell all that reads this that buying online is much better than a go cart shop. I have shopped at both during the build of my BSR and online even with shipping cost beats the local cart shop. I just found and paid for the steering wheel i was looking for today. I wanted the 10 inch 70's grant . I'm sure you guys have seen them. I had one on my mustang and just had to have one for my BSR. If i get this one going and looking good, MY boss wants one made for him . He races miata's for fun. Well keep the pics coming.

Are you going to run hand controls or foot controls?? I ask because I am using a small deep dish wheel for my Radio Flyer Racer I am building and cannot find any hand controls that will fit the one inch diameter. I know they make them, but I have looked hi and low and have been on the phone with bike shops all of the country and cannot find them. I am going to have to modify some that I bought (7/8") or either cut the foam off of the wheel (I dont want to do this to a $55 steering wheel).
Here is a pic of it so far (this isnt the wheel I am using, its too big to look right):

Well i wanted to use hand controls. I seen a BSR with hand controls that didn't clamp to the foam. See pic. So I came up with something to fit a deep dish wheel. I will see if i can find my drawings and show you.

Like'em all guys...
As for steering, I thinking something similarto Mike's. With a7hp Tecumseh... damn sure I want to be able to put force (push/pull) intothe handles for those high(er) speed turns. :D Couldn't imagine being hunched over an already high center of balanced machine with a low, roung steering wheel. Just thinking of the posture screams "carpel tunnel syndrome". No offense to anyone using a wheel vs. a T-bar setup. Just a personal reason for my design.
I'm using a snowmobile hydraulic break handle on the left (similar to the attached), GREAT stopping power for a low price... and a twist grip on the right for throttle.

It's changed quite a bit! Current version attached... still need to build a jig to get the welding done though.

SupraLuda,
I like the style axle hangers you are using. Where did you get them?
I have the 1/4" flat plate type and I noticed when I am going fast and take mild curves on my street I can hear the brake disc rub on the pad lightly. I am sure there is some flex going on there.
Thanks!

They got hacked from the kart frame... these take a different sytle bearing hanger (or cassette)than the flat plate style like your using. The outter bearing is completly encumposed vs. the inner/outter retainer.

Just thought I'd reply and let you know where you can get them... until now, I haven't found them anywhere until I stumbled across this site today: http://www.kartwarehouseworld.com (http://www.kartwarehouseworld.com)
Unfortunatly, they aren't made for american sizes... only european (or metric... eg. 25mm, 30, 40, and 50)

Since the tube is 1.5"... I would assume 1.5" dyes. ??? Don't know for sure...the exhaust shop did it as per a layout I brought in when I was there looking for 1.25" piping. lolz
Great bunch of guys... something about building a BSR to any middle/late age male does wonders. The idea of riding a bar stool... bah. They did it pretty cheap.
I think there's shots through-out my design somewhere in this thread. ;)
On another note... anyone want to buy a brand new welder? lolz (I need something bigger now...)
