Do Band brakes work??

I just bought a used go kart for parts for my racer and it came with band brakes, I was wondering if anyone has tried them and if I could use it? Or should i just change it over to disc right away? Capnron

Band brakes work. In many cases they work as good as the cheap disk brakes do. I would say it is all preference. If you have a little extra money get the disk brakes, if you are just trying to get one together keep the band brake and update as you go. The on problem you may have is clearance if you switch to 5" or 6" wheels/tires, so check that.
