hey everybody,
my wife asked if i would build a mini chopper for her, and who am i to argue? i would like to use a go kart slick for the rear tire. does anyone know if it is a problem having a wheel with a large offset, or should the hub be centered in the wheel for it to work ok. hoping it won't matter, but let me know what you think.
thanks for the help,
wayfat

yeah, making it all myself, with a little help from my machinist neighbor, who is modifying some parts i bought to make the axle work out like i want it to.

That looks real cool Wayfat. I like the round tube frame and the 6" rear tire. Great build.
Turn the hub backwards and fit to the inside of the rim, this would bring all the weight back into the center of the rim.
You may have some problems setting up the brake calipers on the rear tire. If you are looking for some alternative solutions, you could try setting the brakes up on a jack shaft away from the back wheel. The karting MCP discs come in a 5" rotor or you could make your own 4" rotor.
Just a thought.

I put a 6" wide slick on the back of a mini bike last year. It doesn't cause near the problems that people claim it will. It actually never gave me any trouble at all.

Thats so much like some scooters (go-ped style) we built many years ago with a mate, called the pair Shredsleds, but rode them only a couple times.

We found that the flat kart tyres had to be pumped up to insane psi to get them semi round, or when standing on it at speed it would "waddle" from side to side that caused a front end tank slap with the lack of rake or castor we could run to stand vertically on it.
