Just my opinion but real motors have valves. 2 stroke engines have out lived there place in the motor sports world. I'm sure plenty of people disagree with that but 4 strokes have a better power curve and are infinitely more reliable.

I wouldnt say they are outlived. It takes a 450cc plus 4 stroke dirt bike just to run with a run with a 250cc 2 stroke in motorcross besides 4 stroke are for tree huggers...How about 229 cu in of fuel injected 2 stroke!!!!

Now now I didn't mean to start a battle with anyone......I love my 2 stroke blender......And I'm sure my 460 powered Bronco takes me out of the tree hugger category....Put that engine in a barstool and people will be sending you get well cards I think.....To me the key word when it comes to a toy is reliability...I don't want to be rebuilding my engine when I could be riding it or building something cool for it....real motors have valves

Well....wrenching bikes put me thru school...so...I have an opinion to...2 and 4 strokes have their place....there might be more if emissions could be improved...but there are too many mods that are complex to do that....I raced...I won....I broke....but I was always on the edge...on dirt give me a 2-stroke...in mud or enduros..give me a 4 stroke...the power is there but generally u got to spin um to get it...I built a development cylinder for a 350cc Kawasaki that took it to 470cc with a road race modified carb and a cut rotary valve...Red Line nickel plated frame...works titanium pipe...see thru fenders....buy...to be young again...I healed faster then...I built a few RD350 cafe bikes...nothing...nothing..including 750cc tripples could catch them...My son has a supercharged Civic...runs like stink..scarey fast...but I tell him he needs a REAL car....V8 is my way....there is enough for everyone...and its ALL...ALL...ALL...good.....remember
LIFE IS A JOURNEY...ENJOY THE RIDE
ps: If you find a water cooled 80cc for sale...i want one for my next project...i think radiators are cool stuff to....

Nick,

Sounds very cool. I have wanted to build with a motor like yours. Send some photos when you get a chance.

Hey, Rubicon I may be selling this bike or the engine soon. A customer left it and will not pay for the repairs. It is a Honda CR80R,1987 model water cooled! what do you think? I will get some better pics soon and also check out the engine good for you! The man owes 275.00 for the repairs!

VOODOO, that is a highly modified OMC (evinrude/johnson) 3litre outboard boat motor. I welded the alluminum air plenums together on it. It belongs to a machinist (like you cant tell) friend of mine. That is Hilborn mechanicle fuel injection on there and MSD ignition (or two of them) made for Jet skis. This is mine, msd x-intake manifold and 6 one barrel carbs....IT goes on this.Boating is my favorite hobby, then welding and finaly building anything cool.......Like barstools!

has anyone thought of using a 49cc pocket bike engine they are pretty cheap and right around 5 hp with an upgraded exhaust they are 5hp or better

Speeddrunk,

Sound like a good idea. My question is, how much does the engine weigh and what kind of torque does the engine have?

You are going to need torque to get the bsr moving.

thats the only problem with the 49cc is that it has next to no torque. my friend has a pocket bike and the thing takes forever to get up to speed.

yeah that is a good question about the torque i don't know i will find out and what kind of torque should i be looking for to use it on a bsr

I saw a guy on ebay selling a barstool racer with a 49cc engine on it and you could hardly tell there was an engine on it. Check the dimensions because this thing looked like 6"X6". Tiny!

For everyone wanting to put a larger motor on there bsr. Please don't scimp on anything especially the brakes. I'm not saying htat my accident was just because of my brake set up, it was probably more my inexprerience with the bsr but I do beleive it wouldn't have been so severe if I had a better brake set up. I now have a cast on my foot and ankle and the doctor is talking that if this does not work I will have to go in for surgery. So PLEASE make sure everything is RIGHT and don't skimp on anything thinking "that should work just fine" or to save a buck. Build it a little to the extreme. I don't want to hear of anyone else going through what I'm going through. Don't get me wrong, I think big bad ass motors are cool, and the bigger the better. Just make sure everything else matches it and can handle it. THANKS

I have two bsr's currently using 2 strokes.
The first one is a yamaha kt100 and the other one is a PCR 135. Both engines are higly reliable and have had no problems what so ever with either. They were built for kart racing so they do need a little love and care but nothing too major for anyone. My current bsr im working on is a 125 shifter. Its from a 2002 kx125 that was abandoned and I picked it up at6 a police auction for a couple hundred bucks. The top end was seized but a new jug, piston and ring, crank bearings and it came to life on the second kick. Should work out really nice.

The 2 stroke is where its at for me, I love my briggs but theresd nothing like the powerband of a 2 stroke and watching the tach lay over to 14 grand. However I do have a briggs flathead cranking almost 11 grand so I guess thats pretty cool too. I think the biggest issue between 2 or 4 is what YOU like!!!! Everyone here has there favorite engine and everyone here sticks to there guns. If you want to go outside, pull the cord and ride go with a 4 stroke. If you want to do a little upkeep and haul adoublehockeysticks then go with the 2 stroke. Its really up to you. Both engines can be modified and both can be a ton of money. If its your first time I would say stick with the 4 stroke. There a ton of fun and if you decide to go faster later you can beef em up a little.

Get stiffer reeds such as black widow or the like, jet it right, run a decent race clutch and gears, maybe a performance coil, and that motor should pull just as well as a 4.5hp four stroke maybe a little more. This is the mods I did on my pocket bike and it pulled my buddy 6'3" 258lbs like he wasn't even 120lbs. These two strokes got @ss boy!

pound for pound....What itll take to get a pocket bike engine to pull a stool, will be @ twice the cost of a tec, or a clone, or anything worth putting in a stool. I had a scooter shop and have sold dozens of pocket bikes of all sizes and have built up a couple for my private use. DONT WASTE UR TIME.

Just my .02, I personally don´t like the idea of mixing oil and gas everytime I fill the tank. I´m more to the idea of pump and go ;) (however I don´t have a barstool yet =( )
