Hey Guys, thought I would share my latest project.
It will be a Racing Lawnmower. I got inspired when I saw pics and videos of these crazy Canadian's that run not to far from me. And since I just couldnt start with a beginners class I jumped in with both feet to the top Outlaw class. Ive spent some time collecting parts and have just started putting together. Tell me what you think??

Chris

Sarted with a simple frame and drop axle.

Found a hood that I liked. Then I started adding kart axles and bearings for axles and jackshaft. Also added wheels tires and seat.

The rods and flywheel are cut from billet not cast.

very nice. I saw the sandblaster in background of picture and wondered how the pieces came out so smooth. Can't wait to see the finished product...keep posting pics

It looks good Chris. You have spent a lot of time researching the go fast parts and fabrication of the frame. I bet that billet flywheel and conrods set you back a bit, they're really proud of that stuff. Is that a Tilletson Carb from EC?
As for the cleaning up of aluminum blocks and heads, I either blast them with the glass beads or use walnut shells depending on how bad they are.

Thanks Mike, the parts are not cheap as Im sure you know from karting. They get twice as exspensive when you have 2 cylinders. The Carb pictured came from EC but the actual set came from Mike Clements. He is the only one around that had the size I needed. HL380's.
Couldnt help the cleaning of the block. We did this motor on the cheap to get me started. Next motor will be a Kohler instead of the Briggs. Kohlers put out about 100hp and are much more stout than a Briggs.
I wanted to work out the chassis my first year and then add the horsepower later. A new chassis build means problems to work out, so I put my money into the chassis first. Chromoly! :thumb:

Yep first build. Ive had a lot of phone / email time with Ryan Kerr who is the top contender hands down. This guy builds some great stuff. So nice that he does this for a living!! I couldnt have done any of this with out him.

The frame is from a late model Craftsman. A step thru frame not a step over tunnel.

Your machines look great Matt. And thanks for the good words.
From what you see in the pics I have not done to much fab work at this point but that is coming. Steering will take quite a bit of figuring. As for trying to do it right Im taking my lead from Ryan Kerr. He is tops in this field and has been very helpful with lots of direction on the design. If it would of been just me it would be more or less a photo copy of his. But he has given me lots of ideas based on his experience.

Here is shot of Ryan Mower.
