Just to let everybody know, I actually got to start on my bsr. I started on the frame tonight. I am using 1 1/2 square tube, I know it's over kill but the bigger the better. Have gotten the front axle done and set it up with 15 deg caster 0 deg camber. Still haven't figured out the steering shaft all the way yet but I am going to rumage around a steel co. tomorrow to see what I can get. Still trying to get all the parts. Need spindles and hubs mainly. Had to s. o. the rear sprocket. Anyone have any thoughts on building a set of spindles with bearing instead of bushings? I'll post some pics as soon as I get some, don't have a digital camera, was about to get one but it would have taken money away from the barstool and I can't do that!

I've been working on the frame a little every night. Wish I had a way right now to post a pic. Don't know if I like it so far, the 1 1/2 square tube looks to big to me. I might get a digital camera tonight, wifes has been wanting one anyway. Hope everyone had a grwat holiday, mine was spent in the garage. My daughter came by and she told mom that she seen sparks shooting out of the garage door.

Will do warpaint, we still need to get together. Goes to figure that normally this time of the year we slow down at work, that's why try to do my prodjects about this time but this year we're still slammed. I'm going in on saturdasy to keep everything going. I would like some opinions on it so I don't get to far into the frame and change my mind on the tubing. I'll e-mail you or e-mail me and we'll get together when we both can get free time. Would like to see your bsr.

Nice Work!!! I am using the same size tubing on my dual wheel bsr and so far it is looking good to! You wont have to worry about flex or bending it as easy as if you had used 1x1 square tubing. Keep up the good work!!!:hot:

Well I got a chance today to work on the frame somemore. I still need to take the caliper apart and move the actuator arm around. I got the bearings I needed today to finish the spindles. Monday I'm going to get the chain so I can finish the motor mounts. Still need to get hubs!!!! Have the rims and tires. Then ALOT of time to spend with a grinder and deburing bit and then a buddy is going to sandblast and prime the frame for me. So far I haven't had to cut anything back off to move it except for one spimdle bracket that was a little off (very little) Now watch I'll have to cut the whole dang thing apart!

I got a chance to get some more work done the last couple nights. Here's is a couple pics of the bars. Keep trying to hurry things and then have to go back and fix things. I should know better by now not to rush and take my time. When I do take my time nothing gets screwed up. Let me know what you guys think.

Hey warpaint, it took me three times to get those bars right. I know I'm the one that built them but I need to say the pics don't look half as cool as they do. This weekend I fabbed the motor mounts and found a mounting location for ign. box and coil. I also finished the spindles. I couldn't find anyone that had the spindles I wanted so I made my own. Instead of bushing they have sealed bearings. Also one pic is of the start of an upper support for the steering neck, no matter how I built it, it still flexed, plus I need a spot to mount some sws. Hey Rubicon, how did you mount up your WOT sw for the nitrous on the motorcycle carb? Oh and warpaint, you said that you liked that brake caliper so I got one, if it works pretty good I'm going to put one on my sons go kart.:hot:

Yah if anyone notices, yes I need to redo my pitman arm on the neck. I've already got the plate to do it just need to get the new one made.

Thanks dt, I'm thinking about another month or 2 till I get it rolling. With all the rest of the fab work, grinding and paint then final ass. Thinking of sending spindles, wheelie bars and gas tank out for chrome, haven't made a final decision yet. Are you going to start on yours any time in the near future?

Thanks Monkey, I got the shifter built tonight and had to notch the dang crossmember for the front motor mount, but it's done. The list is getting smaller and smaller, hopefully I'll have a rolling chassis before too long.

woodchuck, the stool is removable, instead of the mounts on the outside of the pipes I found some tubing to go inside of them, it goes up close to 3" inside the legs. I'm hoping the way that I'm setting up the upper steering column brace that I won't even need to bolt the stool in place, it wil be basically sandwiched in there. The only thing I'm starting to worry about is wheight, I've got ALL the major stuff fabed and w/ the motor, this thing is heavy to me. I have the wheight centered so hopefully I'll need those bars I built, the'll let me do about 2 1/2' . It's going to be one hell of a ride!
Hey sniffles, great to hear that you finally get to start on yours. I'm glad I got to start on mine. The most fun is the build, afterwards I just don't care basically, other then the bragging rights that go along with it. As far as color, the yellow that the motor is painted in is the color I"m painting the frame. From what I found out today, I may just powder coat it (a buddy started powder coating about a month ago) You need to post LOTS of pics if you can.
Talking about powder coating, has anyone seen or had done the powder coating that is supposed to look like chrome just not as shiney? Can get that done for a hell of alot less then chrome.
Dude I would bolt the stool on for safty don't depend on the sandwich idea to hold it in place when your doing 360's and terin up on it. Be safe but do it going fast!

Well, I've been working on my bsr about 1 or 2 hours a night. Spent 2 nights setting up the shift arm and linkage. Then stood back looking at it. Cut the lever and linkage all aprt and rebuilt it. Never ending. It's getting there though. Hey sniffles how are you doing on yours, any pics yet?

Hey everyone, just letting you know htat I'm still around. We've been slammed at work and between that and honey do's I've found alittle time to work on my bsr. I did get the shifter finished and the tank brackets all fabbed and the tank mounted. I don't really like the tank, it's just hanging out there, so I'm trying to figure out something else on the tank or was thinking of trying to find a wing to try and take up some empty space. I will try and post more pics this weekend.

Here's some pics of progress so far. Between work and everything else haven't had alot of time to work on it. Get a chance here and there. Got it painted but have to redo the shifter and tank (wich now has a small dent in it) due to a misshap with my dogs. They thought they were hanging there to play with and they nocked them down. Oh well, can't be mad at my dogs. Let me know what you think, found a decal of a skeleton joker rolling dice that I'm thinking of putting on the tank, don't know yet. I've been reading all the post but by the time I get a chance to read my eyes are going crossed and I don't reply to alot.

I'm hoping within the next month. I've already had it together sorta but didn't have the brakes set up and didn't think a broken leg to stop it was worth it. Now it's down to the little things. I had to tear back into the motor to fix an oil leak at the head, hopefully I've gotten it fixed because I haven't been able to fire it back off. Made the exhaust, short pipe about 6" with baffles. LOUD as hell but with the baffles it doesn't have that ear piercing pitch to it. It dumps straight down under the frame. May change that after I gert it actually rolling. My neighbers probably were ready to kill me, fired it off about 10:30 one night, but then my wife said that everyone is used to me and they just asked what I was building now. These are people that seen me pulling a 21' bass boat down the street w/ my lawnmower.

Hey man that looks so good. i bet the guys at your work will go nuts. make sure they sign a ride at your own risk before you let them ride. LOL We had a close one last week at work. One of the guys was drifting with mine and just about took out a new ford truck. i mean he came like a inch from hitting it.
But Every thing was ok after i pulled my jeans out of my ass. But hey you got a kick ass ride there.

McCulloch vintage motor? The motor is a honda 110, bored 20 over and rejetted, may port the head after I get everything else done. Then the NOS is next after I get it rolling.

Hey warpaint, if you want to get a bunch of aliminum, got s&s metals in sandsprings. $1 per pount, no min. For my bars I found some 7/8 solid alum. rod. After a little while with 1500 wet and then some metal polish they look like chrome. Thay have sheets, solid and tube, I picked up soome thick wall tube to make coverss for my rear axle wich I'll polish up like the bars.

Thanks for all hte pos. feedback. It's painted not powerder coated. Not real happy with the way the paint came out in spots but that's never been a strong area for me. Almost sent it over to a buddy to have him do it but hten decided to do it ALL on my own. Kinda wish I did now but a little color sanding and I'm hoping it will be OK. Trust me rubicon, I'll be hitting you up for jet sixes on the nos, I'm going to try and use the lihting coil off of the motor to run the solenoids and pump, need to play with it and see what power I'm getting out of it.

Trying to remember my elementary bike electrical experiences....You did not say whether the engine had electric starter..if so then you need a battery anyway...and it will charge it...and support a minimum lighting load...my 90cc will handle a 55w headlight at avg speed but at low rpm it will discharge the battery...I don't use the light...and I don't have to externally charge the battery...I use to get a request to eliminate the battery on British bikes...I used a capacitor circuit to simulate the battery and keep the flicker out of the headlight...also gave up some current for the ignition coil....I use a medium size motorcycle battery....

There was nothing going on at work today so I took a vacation day. I got evrything put together and took it on it's first ride. Had a few little things to work out. Just a reminder to everyone, make sure you tighten the lock nut on the brake caliper, if not the adjuster vibrates loose and you loose your brakes. Found that out the hard way!:cussing: The things a blast though, 1st and 2knd are fun but 3rd and 4th is a blast. Rubicon, you hit it right on the nose with the 44 tooth sprocket, works great, great low and high speed. OH and Mike, it will wheely in ALL gears. I've attached some pics, still have some work to do on the wheely bars. Have to clean it up now and have a few things to tweak on.

VERY NICE...I could not help but notice your shifter...I started with a billet aluminum jockey shift under my left thigh...like a old "non-unit" Harley....but I had to let off throttle and brace for a smooth shift....when I redesigned for the foot shift I was amazed at the thrill of a powershift and wheelie....after a while I reversed the direction of my shifter..it shifts up with my toe and down with my heel..I don't remember if anyone noticed but you can install a $10 bike speedometer from WallMart...calibrate it for the tire circumference in cm....it will capture top speed while you are paying attention to the road....
sweav
February 12th, 2006, 10:23 AM
My shifter is also upshift with toe and down with heel, it took three tries and an adjustable linkage to get the shifter to feel right. It shifts quick and easy. I was going to try the speedo, I have enough room in front of the cup holder to mount it along with the sws for the nos. I still haven't had a chance to see what the lighting coil puts out, and I don't have an electric start or batt. I think I can use it, the lighting coil and stator are seperate so I won't be using power for coil. As far as top speed, don't know, get it in 4th and the motor starts missing a bit. I pulled the plug last night and it looks like I'm running to rich so today I'm going to reset my main needle to run a little leaner and readjust the timing to try and get it to clear up. I do know one thing, it'll make your eyes water at the top speed I've gotten so far, I should get alot more power out of it once I get the carb figured out. All in all, the motor is doing alot better then I expected from a motor I resorected after setting out in the weather for 6+ years. I need to figure out how I can get more polished alum. and chrome on it, looks a little plain to me.

I picked up one of those $10 speedometers and am going to try it out. I guess mount the magnet on the axle and calibrate it.

Could you do a pic of the method you use to start it?...I have had an idea of using a jackshaft and chain to reverse the kick start stroke to the front so it would fit between the tires....I had a miss with mine but it was in the coil output shorting to ground...I wish I had a rev limiter...on Nitrous it screams and I can't really tell how many milions of rpm it is turning...I expect it to grenade one day.....

Rubicon, mine is just a pull start. I set the carb up to run leaner and it seems to have taken care of it. Still would like to have more power out of it. I'm going to check on a kit that I've seen to turn the 110cc into a 125cc and port the head. I'm going to have to wait on the nos until I get more money saved up (got some set aside now but not enough yet)
Mike, you need to try it. I was hoping for a little more out of the 110 but with the gearing and clutch set up I can run a lower final gear and have a good top speed. It's a little more fab work but worth it, if nothing else it's worth it just for the look.

Well I'm back on my feet sorta. I have my bsr torn down and getting ready to replace the brakes with hyd. I've found a 125 w/ electric start to replace the 110. So now all I need to do is come up with a place to add in a battery box and rewire some things. I'll post some pics as soon as I get to a point to take them. Still hunting for a front brake set up, there are 2 sets of front brakes on ebay right now but I don't know what the'll go for. Anyone have any ideas on the box, I was actually thinking of mounting the box (5x4.5x5.5) under the seat but I don't know how that is going to look.
