ok guys, i have checked places, and i have not found an answer. i know that this is a BSR forum, but i figured you guys could help me just as much as anyone else. i am building a "something" i guess you could call it a go kart. its a mix between a barstool racer, a shifter kart, and a lawnmower. my question is, i am going to be putting in a 100cc 5 speed engine in this thing, i was wondering if you guys could tell me what size sprocket i would need to get this thing HAULING. and i mean fast guys. but the problem is, that i dont want to take like 5 years to get there because of high gearing. i want to be able to get the thing to just fly off the line and be able to run like a wild banshee at full speed. any suggestions???

ok, i think i am going to ditch the idea of the 100cc. due to the fact that its a two stroke motor. i dont like dealing with premix. if there is a combination of engine, torq-a-verter size/type, and rear axle sprocket to get me upward or 60 miles an hour but still have enough bottom end torque to get me moving.

Try a 40 tooth sprocket on the axle and use a GOOD clutch, that should get you to crazy speeds.:thumb:

You can do a search for go kart gearing and find calculators that you enter in tire size, drive and axle gearing and it will give you the aprox. speed. If your wanting speed I would stick with the 100cc for the gearing so you can run a lower final gear, or run a motor large enough that you can run the gearing you want.

what do you guys think about running like an 11 horse motor with a torque a verter?? i was thinking about doing 13 clutch gear, and a 35 axle gear. but that still only gets me to 46.39 MPH. i want lots more speed than that. also, i thought about the gearing i was thinking about and it gives me a ratio of 2.69. that doesnt leave me with alot of bottom end to get me moving. but do you think that 11 horse motor will make up for it???? also, if i use that 100cc, would i just stick a gear on the output shaft, because it already has a manual 5 speed???
