I was thinking about purcahsing a kit BSR, but im extremely picky and when its done, i want it show quality.

For the steering shaft, All i see around on these websites is steel. I hate paint and will opt to powdercoat everything, but when a steering shaft is slid into place , im worrying about scuffing the powdercoat, or the shaft not fitting at all do to the thickness of the powdercoat.

Im loking at the model with the diamond plated floorboards (red one) at the top of the page.

I donot like that T handlebar and wanted a wheel instead.
What exactly keeps the steering shaft spinning smooth but not too loose to be bouncing around?? A bearing? Bushing of some sort?
If so, if i get the PCoated, it will not slide in, even paint will get scuffed??

Qaud, I've seen several different ways to build the steering neck. When I built mine I used the steering neck off of a bicycle and extended it. You come out with an outer tube that is stationary and an inner tube. The whole thing works great, you have a nice clean steering set up and bearings. Find a nice steering wheel monut and your set.

Quad,

All you need to do is powder coat the frame when you have it assembled. This way the parts are already fitted and the powder coat will only stick to the exposed parts. Do you know what I mean?

Quad,

I have attached two photos of my steering column setup for the Classic Cruiser.

You need to remember, you only power coat when you are done welding, grinding and assembling. The steering column in my photos was painted after assembled. You will have the same results with powder coating. And from what I understand...powder coating is just another form or paint, but it is baked on for a harder finish.

I have powder coated many different parts, don't worry about scratching anything with this frame kit after you power coat. The frame and steering column will be complete when you take it to powder coat. The only thing you need to be careful with is when you put your other parts on ex. axle, motor, barstool etc...

Hope that helped you out!

Mike,
Are you using a bushing or bearing where your steering shaft enters the tube? Or is that just a washer welded on there?

Well.....Powder coat the tube...use a flanged nylon bushing and solid stainless shaft.....I started with 3/4 carbon steel tube...then pipe...the solid stainless....it is stiffer and shines...good luck

KStoner,

I am using a custom made plastic bushing inside the steering column. The washer on top is cosmetic.

I have attached a photo of what the inside of the steering column looks like before the washer is placed on top...

Hey i couldnt get 18mm diam round bar to fit into the PVC steering shaft so i got some 16mm diam stuff and made a 16diam bushing that fits inside the pvc and has a lip on the top thats 25mm and dosnt need to be welded on cawz its a tight fit....not that i could weld brass to steel even if i wanted to........uhh as far as u not wanting the steel in the steering colum to rust just keep it really greasy and it wont rust no poweder coat needed!.

BAR-TAB,

The Classic Cruiser is my design. The Pro Street Cruiser is a re-design of a similar frame. The only thing similar to the other frame is looks. The Pro Street Cruiser has all new cuts and dimensions to make the frame cleaner and easier to build.
