I was looking at a few axle kits and have a question.
I do not want my axle to look like rusty poop. Is there anyone who runs aluminum axles ?? Stainless Steel?? I just dont want to have a nice barstool racer with a rusty axle?
Thanks Guys

Run an Alum. axle and it won't rust but keep it clean though, Alum. will pit instead of rust.

Quad,
I run a steel axle and mine does not look rusty. The trick to keeping it nice is to simply spray some WD-40 on a rag and wipe it down once in a while.
If for some reason I do get rust, I simply raise the rear wheels off the ground place a piece of emery cloth on the axle and give the engine some gas and it turns the axle and polishes clean like new.

What I'm doing with my axle (mainly to cure a problem with it shifting on me) is I have a steel axle and I'm making spacers for everything to slide over the axle out of aluminum pipe and then polishing it. For some reason my set screws in lock collars and in my sprocket hub let the axle walk a bit witch throws my allignment off a bit.

Who remembers the day when we cut an old leather belt and made a strap and bolted it around the front axle of our bicycle and oiled it...my axle looked like a mirror!!

 It that what thoes were for? I remember seeing them and did not know they had an actual purpose. I thought it was one of thoes thing like when you clipped a playing card on your bike wheel so you would make noise. Does anyone remember that?

Rear lock collars....
Remove goofy set screws...and replace with real live bolts.
Always use extra "lock collar" with the bearing lock.
