I have told many that the tires and engines are the most expensive to build a barstool racer. Now you know why they sell for what they do.
I hear that the slicks are cheaper then the knobby tires like mine. Someone told me if you go to a 5" rim and tire the price drops a bit, but do not quote me on that.
Best thing I can tell you is to keep an eye on eBay. Might take a few weeks but they will show up.

Yah, watch e-bay, it may take a while but it will be worth it. Sometimes they will have the rain tires also.

i by alot of things off of ebay i bought my rims off of there. but for some reason i just dont think that i will get what i paid for if i get tires from there. so i think i will just have to suck up the cost and do it to it!

Hello, On Ebay I bought 12 new firestone 6" slicks for 175.00 including shipping. Not to bad if you take and sell what you dont need. resell them in pairs and get all your money back and you get your 4 for free!! Just a thought!! Takes a little time but free tires is worth it!!
Have a Good one !

Your best bet is used on ebay or try and find a karting swap meet. Guys ditch them after they wont punch out the right durometer reading.Vega tires has tires out now. They have yellow lettering on them. Im not sure of a website, but if you type in Vega tires you can find them.

Everything said so far is dead on...First look at wheels from several internet kart stores...$24-30 ea for 5" polished Douglas wheels....New tires ( fresh stock ) form internet stores are pricey...e-bay is a good choice if...if...you use good judgement on what you are getting....unless stated as new or nearly new wheels with pics to prove it you will get ones that are scratched, dented...or otherwise a lot of time and effort to make them look good....and used tires are often ( not always ) irregularly worn...or old and dry rotted ( inflate them and see the cracks....so ...all of this is to say ....buy mounted wheels/tires that are nearly new and at the right price....or buy new "out of date" tires off e-bay....one said be patient and the deal will come to you....my experience is a complete set of rain tires on very good ( like new ) Douglas rims with 80% even tread for $90...I got another recently that was gold anodized magnisium wheels with Vega rain tires...70% tread...$98 including shipping...these were metric so I modified a new set of USA hubs ( $48 ) for them...my other sets were new wheels from internet for $25 ea and new in wrapper tires from e-bay...good luck....

Hey guys I have a buddy down in texas I used to race karts with that gets a killer deal on tires. I bought a set of firestone ultra soft (shifter) tires from him and it was 175.00 delivered right to my front door. I think the maxxis, burris and dunlops go a little cheaper but worth looking at anyways. I know the dunlops sl4 compund are 38.00 front and 47.00 rear for 4.50-5 and 7.10-5. Thats 170 bucks, plus about 12 for shipping. And if your outside texas theres no sales tax. The cool thing is if you can get a large order together the price goes even cheaper than that. Im about to order 6 sets if anyone wants to order a set as well get in touch and I will see what kind of a deal he can put together for us.
Heres his website if you wanna dink around and look
