Hey guys i was wondering what you think about the B&S 6.5hp Intek motor? Im looking at getting one for the stool im building pretty soon. Harbor Freight sells them for 250. If not, what others would you reccomend? Also, what type of clutch would you guys reccomend for it? Thanks a bunch! :thumb:

Hey Stool-Sample,

What kind of performance gains could I expect going from a 6.HP Tecumseh to the 5.c Intek you guys sell?

What is the big difference with the Intec engines if there is any...?

Thanks,
Mike

Ive got one on our show model. This motor rocks. It sounds good and performs well. The first time I used it i was impressed. Im not saying the 5.5 is better, its just what we stock. These motors are more upright than others. They seem to fit between the legs better. The briggs over tec. The best thing I can say is parts are readily aval. Im just very impressed with the Briggs motors. Now this is only my opinion.I cant tell you the shipping costs. I would say call the shop at (937)526-9544 Amanda will get you a $ amount.

I think Im gonna go with the same motor Mike used. After looking around a bit i found one. A couple questions though. How the hell do you pronounce "Tecumseh", and how well does the 6.5 power sport perform? Thanks guys http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/product.asp?PN=OHH65-Troy

I found a place at www.smartkartparts.com/engine.htm (http://www.smartkartparts.com/engine.htm) and they have an engine made in China by the Jiangsu Jiangdong Group of China. It's a 6.5 & offers the same features & performance as the Honda GX200 at a fraction of the cost. It sells for $149.95 and the parts a interchangeable with Honda parts. S&H is $30.00 to Lower 48 States.

The 5.5 and the 6.5 Intek are both good motors. Unlike the Tecumseh, there are plenty of aftermarket parts for the Intek. Most Briggs Animal parts will interchange with the Intek. In fact, if you're going to "abuse" your BSR, I would recommend swaping out the camshaft for a stock Animal cam. The Intek cam has a plastic gear and have been known to break under some punishment. The stock Animal cam will give you a little performance gain. The valve springs are the same as the Animal, so just use the Intek springs. Set valve clearance at .004 cold on intake and exhaust. The only other thing is the rod. The Intek rod has a stamped steel dipper on it and will also break under extreme conditions. The Animal rod has a built in dipper. If you are going to make some big performance changes in the motor, then I strongly recommend the Animal rod. Also, if you are going to "crank" these motors hard, replace the flywheel with the Animal billet aluminum wheel. Hope this helps.

These parts BM1 are talking about can be bought fairly cheap by engine builders who replace their stock parts with high performance parts.Alot of them you can find on ebay. Maybe not so much the flywheel. Thanks for the input on the intec BM1 I wasnt aware of these parts being interchangeable. GOOD INFO

Thanks for the kudos. Always a pleasure to help out when I can. I haven't been on here for a while. Spent a little time in the hospital, and now I'm covered up at the shop. The Briggs Animal was built from the Intek engine. The difference between the 5.5 and the 6.5 is the stroke. So.....if you want to stroke your 6.5, drop in the 5.5 rotating assembly, replace the cam with a stock Animal cam(you can still use the pull start) set the valve lash at .004 cold, put on a Animal carb, set the float height at 26mm and you will have all the power you need for a BSR power plant.
Sniffles.....your package should arrive friday.
