yesterday I picked up a brand new tec 6.5 160.00 and a tav for 169.00 shipping for both was 25.00. I noticed on ebay also, theres a company than sells 8, 10, and 12 hp motors for way cheap but some of the guys negative feedback, scared me off. 8hp motor for something like 230.00?? and 11 hp for 285.00. Claims 3000 hours of use per engine.

BAR-TAB,
I always view the sellers feedback on eBay. If I am purchasing something over $40, I like to see they have had their account for a while and have made several feedbacks and mostly positive.
You cannot always please everyone. Read the negative feedbacks and see what products they were for and see the reason. Also see if it was a seller or buyer leaving the negative feedback.
Honestly, the 6.5 Tech. is a great engine with a TAV. I use one and I think you will be very happy. If you want more speed get a 40 tooth sprocket and remove the governor.
Good Luck!

Question tho, I was talking with the tech where I bought it and he told me. sometimes with the governer removed the engine will wind up or rev up when starting,........without hitting the gas. This could be a dangerous scenario with people around. Ant thoughts.
Also I am more interested in pulling the front wheels off the ground and going 30-35. any suggestions? on ratios

BAR-TAB,
Use your 6.5HP with the TAV and a 40 Tooth Sprocket on the rear and you will be able to ride wheelies all day long and run about 40 mph.
I used the same setup on mine.
We carry the 40 tooth sprocket at BarstoolStoolRacerSupply.com (http://barstoolracersupply.com). Click on the link below to check it out.

BAR-TAB,
One more thing... I may be wrong on this, but I do not understand how an engine can overreve without the throttle being eopen and giving the engine the required air/fuel.
The only thing I can figure is that maybe when you first start the engine with the choke on or something like that it could happen, but with out the throttle open so they the air can get to the engine I still do not think it can happen.
Anyone else have an information on this?

Well I told the guy that doesnt make sense, especially with a throttle return spring. all the governer is is essentially a rev limiter. unless there is an electronic choke which it doesnt, or shouldnt. The only downfall about removing it from what I can see is nulling a warranty. Anyone else have info we are missing?

hi, how did you take the governor off and you could just hold down the brake when starting it.

1. Thats what a tech told me about governer removal of this engine, mines not even here yet lol. I ask alot of questions before doing stuff like this.
2. I think the whole point of this forum is a bunch of speed junkies with a small-large portion of mechanical skills picking each others brains for ideas. So far I think that most of us would have a hell of a good time in one of those "junkyard wars" type of shows, or battle bots shows.
I think my point is not to have to hold or chain down anything when starting this thing, I want to do it right. The more information the better.

Guys there is a problem with the 6.5 and the governonr.
The animal 6.5 does not have this but the stock 5.5 and 6.5 and also the world formula engines have a rev limiter. If the governor is removed overeving even at idle could be a possibility. The rev limiter is triggered through the armature coil and also works with the governor assembly to back the throttle down if it senses crank speed over a preset limit. The only way to bypass this safely is to completely remove the limiter and replace the armature coil with an animal II coil. Also remove the linkage from the carb that goes to the stops and this will cure the problem. They make a kit for the animal throttle linkage you can purchase to easily hook your throttle back up without the governonr. Dynocams sells these kits for about 21.00 and includes 4 foot of cable and all the parts to hook it up. The dynocams part number is CK-1141. The animal coil is 29.00 dynocam part #557040
Keep in mind the 6.5 wasnt designed to be wound up hard and the spring pressure is different from the animal engine. Keep it under 6 grand to be safe. Also the crank is bushed and doesnt have a billet flywheel like the animal so be careful spinning that thing up. The rod is a cast rod designed to run at 3200 rpm and no more so it will give in before long if you keep making her sing. Have fun and I hope this helps

YEah, when you remove the governor linkage, you remove the linkage from the governor to the carb. You have to make you a short piece of rod tying the throttle linkage to the carb so it can't move except when you crack the throttle. I ran into the problem myself and scared the crap outa me. A pair of needle nose pliers and a coat hanger worked wonders. Other than removing the plastic gear inside the motor, there is nothing difficult about it; just takes time and patience.
Batman has alot of knowledge on this motor and has a few pieces that will make it run:

This being my first stool, my question came in the building stage. As of now my stool is complete and the 6.5 with the TAV is more than sufficient to have me grinning like a kid on his first new bike. It yanks the front wheels up and tries to go past the wheelie bars!!!! Plenty for me. Thanks man.

I have a 6.0 Tecumseh Power Sport engine. I was told remove the air box and remove the top painted orange scruw to eliminate the Governer.
I would only gain 1,500 more (RPM's) But that might make a little difference. I was also told to remove the factory air box because it is to restrictive and to leave it off if I do not plan on riding it into dirty areas.
I just found an K&N filter for it I will buy instead of an open carb. I also just bought a header for my Rocket cart. And going up to a bigger rear sprocket to give me more low end.
