Does anyone have a good way to make a removeable steering shaft? I would like to find a way to get the overall height of my BSR to 20" or less for easier transport.

You could always use a long goose neck with handelbars.
I did, and I love the control, and the ease of removal.

I already have everything to do a t handle setup. I was thinking of stoping the outside tube at appprox 18-19" from the ground and then extending the center shaft up 12-14" above that. Then to get it out I thought I could cut the center shaft below the bottom bushing. I would then weld a collar to the bottom of the center shaft and slide the top half in and bolt it to the collar. My concern about this is if the stability of the steering system will be comprimised.

look at some kart shops or kart racing websites because i know some of them have removable steering wheels like in caged karts.

KStoner,
The Classic Cruiser was designed with a removable steering column. There are four bolts that bolth through 4 mounting brackets on the steering column support. The design is also very strong when assembled.
The main idea behind the removable steering column was to make the frame able to be shipped UPS fully welded and for transporting in a small vehicle.
Just measured the barstool. With the steering column and bar stool removed the overall height is 16 inches...

I sure do... This is the best one I have at the time. If you need something better let me know..
You can see the four bolts that are used to hold the steering column legs in...

what on did on mine to make it removeable was get a piece of tube that fit on the steering shaft. weld the tube to the pitman arm. then drill through tube and steering shaft and bolt it on. it kinda like welding a lock collar onto the pitman arm. the only problem i had doing this was the tie rods hit the piece i welded on the arm. solved that by putting the tie rods under the pitman arm and a couple washer between the tie rod ends and arm to drop them down a bit.
