1. I already did a search and read what RUBICON (http://barflyracers.com/member.php?find=lastposter&t=148) said about walmart, and the wireless bike speedometers in another thread. Not to interested in the wireless one, I read somewhere there was an issur with their range.
Well I went to Kmart (it was closer) today and checked out the bike speedometers, I had to open the package, the wire to hook up the sensor is way to short to make it to the rear tire. So need I a speedometer with a longer wire.

2. Also, Im not big on mounting to magnet on the rim, I chang to different tires alot, sepending on where Im riding. Where else could you mount the magnet?
All imput and Ideas are welcome here....:lush:

You might be able to mount it to the rear axle, or maybe the brake disc or the sprocket. If you could get a gear driven one, you might be able to run an idler sprocket to run the speedo. You could even set it up as a chain tensioner and a speedo gear.

I mounted my magnet onto the axle, but no mattr what you do, when you change tire size your going to have a different reading on speedo. If the tires are close to the same circ. you'll be fine when changing tires.

Sweav,

Is there a calibration you can do to the speedo? You would think if it is a universal speedo it would have to be able to be calibrated for tire size...

Why don't you get a GPS and use the sats to tell you your speed? And if you get lost, you can always as the GPS to find your way home.

Mike, yah there is, you measure the circ. of your tire and input it into the the speedo. The one the I've got is dig. With Altrego changing tires, if the tire circ. is the same he won't have to reset it everytime

Alrego, on the wiring, you'll need to cut and lengthen it, it's just 2 wires, when I did mine I switch around the wires and it didn't make a difference on witch way the hooked up, in other words, you can't cross them.

The wireing was the main part i was wondering about, I thought about putting it on a brake disk ( That wouldnt be in use ) might go to the bike shop tomorrow and see what they have.

I epoxied mine into the keyway, just as long as your able to mount the pick up for the mag. you should be good. You'll still need to program tire size into it.

Who needs a Speedometer? Just fly by a cop and they will tell ya ho fast your going:thumb: I do it all the time, it's great by the time we get done talking about the B.S.R I get to give it another run at top speed by the cop just to see if the Radar is working for them!:thumb: Yeah.. I know I'm to good to the local police...Just trying to do my part.

HAs any one ever tryed a mechanical tack?
was thinking about trying an old school bicycle speedo drive under the rope start cover hooked to the crank. Use a Harley Tack(due to the low RPM sweep). the problem I have is, how to figure out the ratio's for how fast the drive will spin, versus the Tack read out. Don't have to be precise, mostly for the cool effect of the guage sweeping thru the RPM's as the engine revs. Any Idea on how to get it close/functional?

I used the one from Wally's, tacked a small piece of wire on the shaft, put the magnet on that, like it mounts on a wire spoke. Lengthen the wire, calibrated to the tire size. Measured out 50 feet, pushed the barstool that far, distance read .009 (5280/50=.009) so I figured it was accurate. The 6.5hp runs at 24mph

digitron makes a tach/temp/pyro/speedo for karts that works real well and will be just fine for a bsr. I got one on each of mine and it works fantastic although I never check the speedo LOL. If your looking for lowbuck though this is for sure not the way to go(about 600.00). But they got a cool lap timer built in too for a beacon if your ever interested in what laps your running.
