Hi im new to barstools, but i will be ordering a frame soon. Once thing i have a question about is will a 3HP Brigg's & Stratton motor be powerfull enough to scoot me along. More than 15 mph but really no faster than 35? Believe me i like speed but i would like to have one to cruise around on at car shows first. Im only 15 and im around 5'5" and 115lbs. Is there anything i can do to the motor that i can bolt on, such as custom exhaust or airfilter. I hear thing's about torq-a-verters. What are these?

Im sure 3hp will be OK, but try to get the most for your $
For size and mounting, get a 5hp, still good a slow speeds, and get up and go power is still there when you want it.
And a Torq-A-Verter, is a realy good Idea, check ebay for engines, there are honda clones that alot of people are using at a good price.

xtman,
U want a horzantal shaft(vert. is for mowing the lawn)(lol).
A torq-a-verter is a good way to go. it gives a nice smooth ride at all speeds.

A 5 horsepower will give you what you want. If you ever plan on upgrading the engine buy a 5hp that is a flathead tiller motor so you can buy racing parts. Removal of the governer and a good carb would give you 7 to 7.5hp on pump gas.

Say i were to buy a 5 horse. Not a tiller motor and made a custom eshaust and removed the governor. Would that be good?

That would be pretty good. Around how much are you wanting to spend? You can always pick up a 6.5hp intek for 200, remove the governer and make a custom exhaust. Right there is 8hp and all intek parts are interchangeable with briggs animal parts including aftermarket parts.

Here is a link to what an Intek is: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Briggs-Stratton-6-5hp-Intek-I-C-OHV-engine_W0QQitemZ7755989097QQcategoryZ79670QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
These engines are great. Make sure you buy a intek 206 not a 190. I would buy the barstool first and then check clearances and see if you can squeaze in a torq-a-verter.

I got the frame! Pretty nice i must say too. I ended up buying the 3 hp off my friend for $20. Now im trying to think of what i could do to it to give it a little more horse power. Anybody know af any places that make exhaust and carbs and stuff like that for the B&S motors.
